As thousands of devotees lined the streets to pay homage, the sacred Relics of the Lord Buddha and the Maharahath Theros and the Sacred Relics of Sariputta and Moggallana, were brought to the Sirasa Vesak Zone on Sunday evening.
The Sacred Hair Relic of Lord Buddha and the Sacred Relics of the Maharahath Theros, commenced their journey to the Sirasa Vesak Kalapaya from the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya on Sunday.
The Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha and the Maha Rahath Theros, which commenced their journey from the International Buddhist Centre in Nelligala, Kandy, were placed at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya on Saturday evening.
On Sunday afternoon, the relics were brought in a procession to the Sirasa Vesak Zone, amid the chanting of countless devotees.
The ceremony was presided over by the Chief Incumbent of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya, Venerable Professor Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkitha Thera.
Amid religious observations, the relics which made their way to the Sirasa Vesak Zone from the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya via Punchi Borella, were placed on the special platform erected for this purpose.
Meanwhile, the procession of the Sacred Relics of Arahants Sariputta and Moggallana, two of Lord Buddhas closest disciples, commenced at the Mahabodhi Agrashawaka Maha Viharaya in Maligakanda.
Amid the chants of devotees floral tributes were paid by air to the Sacred Relics.
Subsequently, the Sacred Relics were placed on the special platform erected at the Sirasa Vesak Zone.
