His Excellency Bishop Emeritus Patrick Nair of Meerut passed away on 7th October, 2017, at the age of 85 years. His Grace Bishop Patrick was admitted to Max Hospital, Dehra Dun on September 11, due to multiple brain hemorrhage and was later shifted to Mayath Indris Medical College Hospital. For the diocese of Meerut, it is an irreplaceable loss but the faithful consoles each other with the firm belief that he is in heaven and is interceding for them.

His Excellency Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, SFX, General Secretary of Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) remarked that “We pray for the repose of his (Bishop Patrick) soul and entrust him to our Lady of Rosary, praying she welcomes him to the heavenly company and we thank God for the many years of dedicated labor which Bishop Patrick gave to the Lord and His church as priest and bishop.”

His Grace Bishop Patrick was ordained a priest on October 3, 1959, and as a priest, he was appointed as Rector of St. John’s Minor Seminary at Sardhana and Administrator of the Shrine of Our Lady of Graces and later Vicar general of the diocese of Meerut. As a Bishop, he had served the National Church as a member of the commission for clergy and religious and has also served as the chairman of the Regional level when the Agra Regional Priest Council was instituted and presently he held the post of President of the Ex-students association called as the “Ex- Manorities.” He was a retreat preacher and has written so many articles on various topics to several magazines.
