The new (and exciting) future of EVE: Valkyrie

#1

As you may have heard, we announced today that we are working with another company to transition the ownership of CCP’s Newcastle studio into new hands.

What does this mean for everyone’s favourite first-person spaceship shooter? Well, for starters we can confidently confirm that EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone is not going away. We love the game just as much as we love our players, so you can rest assured that we’ll continue to support the product into the future.

The development team at the Newcastle studio will remain intact and complete work on the upcoming Winter Update for EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone. So don’t panic! You’ll still receive in-game support for custom matches, tournament tools and a spectator mode before the end of this year.

Our CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson said, “I couldn’t be more proud of our VR games and, more importantly, of the people here who made them.” This statement rings true for everyone at CCP.

This is not the end of EVE: Valkyrie, not by a long shot. It’s the just the beginning of a new chapter.

Welcome to the next life.

ok, but what does this mean for you guys?

#3

Hope you are all being looked after, I can only assume there are a lot of open questions for you all to deal with right now

#4

Thanks for this information. So they will sell off their Newcaskle and close their Atlantic branches and then set up their opperations in China. WOW looks like to me their taking a differant course

#5

We already have an office in Shanghai, China, so we’re not really setting anything up there.

More just re-focusing and re-structuring that office to get the absolute best out of it as we go forward

#6

who’s the new company? Depending on who it is I will be happy or sad for everyone…

#7

@CCP_Falcon I realize this but to make their focus on mainly China!? Looks like China is going to be the main influance in that regard.:open_mouth:

#8

Love you guys! I hope this all works out for you!!!

:heart::rocket::fire::heart:

#9

Wait so what’s happening??

#11

More info coming soon… hopefully

Assuming by the lateness of CCP Redcape’s post compared to Icelandic news article + by it’s hastily written, very short and lacking in details form - we can only guess, that CCP Newcastle (or at least elements of it) had limited prior knowledge with regards to today’s happenings.

#12

Likely they’re digesting the news like we are.

Firstly I hope they all have plans, or are safe in terms of work and everything.

Secondly I hope Valkyrie continues to be a thing, but not with EA

#13

my thoughts exactly…

#14

Thanks for this… I read the news story in jaw dropped disbelief…
I am relieved to hear that the team is still in tact and hope this new chapter brings great things first to the team and then to the future of the game. Eve Valkyrie is simply the best game and community. It needs to continue on…

Hope all you developers know that you have my gratitude and support as a gamer… let us know how we as gamers can help…

Ugh… Sooooo this makes me really, really uncomfortable.

#16

Basically the post just says “Valkyrie is going to continue to exist until at least the winter. We can’t tell you more than that.”

My guess is formal VR expansion is going to end. I don’t really see how the game will continue to get support as-is, especially if the VR side flounders, but I guess we’ll have to see… it would take something big. Here’s hoping (against all hopes) for a Prophecy-style EVE integration?

PS: The word “exciting” is ALWAYS an empty PR word. Just delete it from the headline and read it as “The new future of EVE: Valkyrie” and realize it doesn’t really mean anything.

Yeah, this is by any metric soul crushing for everyone involved and a complete dumpster fire of a situation. As I understand it this as just as much a blindside for all the devs involved as it is for us though, so while I can understand the complete lack of information from them its still a turd sandwich to put it mildly.

For now I suppose I’ll… I don’t know… Make a dartboard with Hilmar’s face on it and howl at the moon until we get any updates on this, if they decide to give us updates at all.

Jesus dude, this has got to be one of the biggest CCP blunders since Incarna.

I just read this article too (after Google Translate) and it reads like a politician speech…

It appears that CCP, according to the article, is selling off it’s VR side of the business and concentrating on PC and in-depth mobile gaming that seems to be expanding in Korea and Asian markets and they want to ride that wave as it comes into western markets. Perhaps this is a good thing in one respect.

A smaller company could buy into EVE Valkyrie as an already existing game with a strong (albeit small) player base. The hard work has been done in developing and getting it to market. CCP with it’s legacy and costs sees VR as a niche ecosystem where the investment to get it up and running isn’t giving the needed return on investment so they aren’t going to support it anymore. Now a small company could buy this existing IP for pennies on the dollar and get a larger return going forward and still support it past 4th quarter 2017.

My concerns are what about the servers? Where are they? If Valkyrie goes off line is there other ways to connect with other players? Will the new company have a player support system like CCP does?

Worried…

No. No! No God damn it no! They’re pulling a CAPCOM!

#20

Gawd I hope not…

:fearful:

China is investing heavily in VR, so it might be a case that they want to acquire the documentation (and maybe patents).
Recent news show how crazy they are about this emerging market.

Hope for the best, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
