Former Dee Gavin Beith appointed head coach of Dundee United women’s team

Gavin Beith, a former Dundee player, has been appointed head coach of United’s women’s team.

The Tannadice side announced the appointment of the 34-year-old this morning.

Beith’s first task will be to put together a squad which will enter the Scottish Women’s Football League (SWFL) next season

The former Dee, who was axed in November 2003 due to administration, holds a UEFA B Licence qualification and Scottish FA Advanced Youth Licence.

On the job in hand, Gavin said it was a ‘fantastic opportunity’.

He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to use my experience to introduce a new Dundee United women’s team and ensure that the team play in the right manner and also produce a competitive team to represent the club in the SFWL.”

Gavin will now begin his search for team members and is encouraging women who have played football in the past but have been lost to the game and those who would like to play for Dundee United to get in touch.

He said: “This is an opportunity for those that have played the game previously to get back involved.

“We want the players to develop their skills and ability under my guidance and take Dundee United to a standing within Scottish women’s football that will make us proud.”

Trials will be held at the fantastic GA Arena on Wednesday June 17 and again a week later on June 24, both 6.30pm.
