Political Science Program

The Department of Political Science offers two degree programs for students choosing to major in political science (BA degree and BS degree).  For both the BA and BS degrees, students must complete a minimum of 36 hours, including 15 hours of required courses and 21 hours of elective courses in six different subfields.  Students may also choose to minor in political science.

Note:  Students who declared Political Science (BA or BS) as their major or minor before August 15, 2012 may choose to complete the requirements of either the current Political Science program (see below) or the previous Political Science program.  Students who declared Political Science (BA or BS) as their major on or after August 15, 2012 must complete the requirements for the current Political Science program.

 

Major in Political Science – 36 hours

Core Requirements (15 credits):  Students must complete each of the following courses – PSCI 2300, 2305, 2315, 2312 or 2322, and 2320.  PSCI 1330 [PLSC 2003]* is a prerequisite for all upper-division Political Science courses.

Subfield Requirements (21 credits):  Students must complete three [3] hours of upper-division elective courses from a minimum of four of the six Political Science Subfields (see below) for a total of twelve [12] hours.  Students must also complete an additional nine [9] hours of upper-division elective courses from any of the six Political Science Subfields (see below).

Minor in Political Science – 24 hours

Core Requirements (15 credits):  Students must complete each of the following courses – PSCI 2300, 2305, 2315, 2312 or 2322, and 2320.  PSCI 1330 [PLSC 2003]* is a prerequisite for all upper-division Political Science courses.

Subfield Requirements (9 credits):  Students must complete nine [9] hours of upper-division elective courses from a minimum of three of the six Political Science Subfields (see below).
