'ATTACK' AT 20: DISPATCHING THE CLONE TROOPERS!

The first battalions of Clone Troopers gather...

On an immense staging area on Coruscant, the legions of Clone Troopers begin boarding their massive Republic Cruisers bound for galactic conflict against the Separatists. Watching all this from afar, a core group of senators huddle around the pleased Supreme Chancellor Palpatine to watch the epic debarkation, including a clearly but silently frustrated Bail Organa, who knows that the violent troubles of the de-stabilized galaxy will only intensify...

“The Imperial March in this case is a powerful potent, suggesting a very dramatic future which is in store for all the characters in the next episode. It’s a piece of music that represents, in my mind at least, not only Darth Vader but the forces of the Empire. It was actually George’s suggestion to use it there, and I think it works extremely well.”

John Williams on using The Imperial March theme towards the end of Episode II - Star Wars Insider - Issue 61 - 2002

Onto their cruiser transports. The Clone War has begun.

On Coruscant, the Republic senate watches the Clones mobilization.

Palpatine and a troubled, helpless to act Bail Organa watch the proceedings.

'ATTACK' AT 20: TO SAVE THE REPUBLIC...

Bail Organa with Mas Amedda and Senator Ask Aak  in the Supreme Chancellor's Office, discussing the fate of the Republic. Art by Paolo Puggioni.

Sent prior to being captured by the enemy, Obi-Wan Kenobi's urgent warning message about the assembling Separatist army on Geonosis has been received by the Republic, whose key leaders and the Jedi Council watch with alarm and decide their next critical course of action, an action that will surely need the intervention of the mysteriously created Clone Army on Kamino...

Several sequences of dialogue were trimmed from the scene with the final editing- Yoda tells Palpatine that only two hundred Jedi out of a thousand are readily available to go to Geonosis, whilst Jar Jar Binks would lose several lines that would ultimately be held over to his important senate chamber scene.

The disturbing message from a now captured Obi-Wan Kenobi triggers the need for action against Count Dooku and his new army.

Master Yoda's concerns grow for both the Republic's dire situation and the building aura of the Dark Side of the Force.

Jimmy Smits proves a well cast addition to the saga as Bail Organa.

Pondering the decisions alongside corruptible Twi'lek Senator Orn Free Taa (Matthew Rowan).

Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) and Mas Amedda (David Bowers) wonder who can boldly represent the Senate's need for the newly discovered Clone Army during Senator Amidala's absence?

A behind the scenes publicity team capture Orn Free Taa and his lovely associates on set.

Matthew Rowan and Jay Laga'aia enjoy a break between filming.

The Clone Army usage idea is discussed in senate.

A duped Senator Jar Jar Binks coerces the Republic into accepting and using the Clone Army residing on Kamino. An important turning point for the doomed Republic in the Prequel saga.

'OBI-WAN KENOBI': CELEBRATING THE YOUNG PRINCESS LEIA...

The young Leia with her pet droid Lo-LA59 (aka 'Lola').

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series, still airing exclusively on Disney+, had many well-conceived sequences to delight long-time fans of the Classic Trilogy, but surely no one expected that young Leia Organa would play such a vital and overall effective part in the six-episode storytelling, and ultimately be a pivotal character to encourage and transform Obi-Wan back from his exiled, tortured soul existence to a stronger and more confident shadowy protector figure for Luke Skywalker on Tatooine.

Enjoying quality time with dad on Alderaan.

On the road with Obi-Wan, of which McGregor and Blair showed great on screen chemistry.

Doing her best to resist the Stormtroopers!

Captured by the Third Sister (Moses Ingram).

A temporary goodbye before eventually reuniting on Alderaan.

Character poster for the series.

An inspired casting choice, young Vivien Lyra Blair delivered a truly exceptional, mature and charming acting performance that managed to capture everything about Leia as originally personified by the much-missed Carrie Fisher- her spirited strength and courage as a soon rebel leader and diplomat, a challenging sense of tenacity, stubbornness, and, most importantly, her love of her adopted family- when we watch A New Hope again, we now have more subtle depth and insight into Leia's tragic personal loss with the destruction of her home planet of Alderaan, and the murder of her parents by the cruel Galactic Empire...

THE PATH TO 'STAR WARS - ANDOR': THE SECRET 'REBELLION'!

A military campaign seemingly without end and a galaxy stretched to the breaking point from the resultant conflicts. Things must change for the better soon, as a cadre of top Republic leaders (including the respected figures of Bail Organa, Mon Mothma and Padme Amidala) meet in secret to discuss what steps can be taken to gently persuade their Supreme Chancellor Palpatine to stop the Clone Wars. The Delegation of 2,000 is soon born.

Concept art, costume reference and publicity images of Mon Mothma, as played in EPISODE III by Genevieve O'Reilly.

Mon Mothma would nobly continue to fight for peace and justice across the Republic soon turned Galactic Empire, though her part in the Rebel Alliance's against the Emperor continues to grow in secret during the events of the upcoming spy thriller/political intrigue drama Star Wars - Andor series, starting exclusively on Disney+ from September 21st, 2022.

CLASSIC IMAGE: MAKING GENERATIONAL PLANS...

Aboard Bail Organa's space faring Councillor Ship, within an impressive production design continuation by Gavin Bocquet honoring the late John Barry's original and iconic set designs for A New Hope, the Alderaanian diplomat discusses the future of the Skywalker children with Master Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenbi during the sad but ultimately hopeful finale to EPISODE III.

CLASSIC IMAGE: THE SECRET CRUSADER!

Fighting the injustice and tyranny of the soon established First Galactic Empire, operating mostly within the law yet also via the courageous birth of the Rebel Alliance of whom he is such an important genesis part (established in deleted scenes from EPISODE III), the highly respected Alderaan statesman Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits) is an essential player in the live action and animated realms of the Prequel STAR WARS universe, as well as the first singular standalone adventure, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Mon Mothma and Bail Organa confer in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Perhaps we may even see more of Bail in the upcoming Obi-Wan or Cassian Andor series prequels on Disney+, alongside the already confirmed to appear Mon Mothma (played by Genevieve O'Reilly) for the latter, in 2022?

CLASSIC IMAGE: IN (ALIEN) HEALING HANDS...

At the far out alien archaeological dig at the Polis Massa asteroid base, its kindly aliens treat the ill and heavily pregnant Padme Amidala, watched by her protectors in Yoda, Bail Organa and Obi-Wan Kenobi, during this important scene from EPISODE III.

DELETED SCENE: A REBELLION IS BORN!

Meeting under top secret and politically sensitive conditions, a group of disenchanted senators (led by Bail Organa with Mon Mothma, and Padme Amidala) meet regarding the disturbing decisions affecting the galaxy being made by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. From their early actions as the peace-seeking Delegation of 2000, a Rebellion will soon be born. A deleted scene of future importance, sadly cut for storytelling reasons being more centred on the fate of Anakin Skywalker, from EPISODE III.

AFICIONADO REVIEW: 'LEIA: PRINCESS OF ALDERAAN'

NOTE: This review contains mild spoilers...

A worthy tribute to Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia and the saga's landmark anniversary, Claudia Gray returns to the STAR WARS book franchise, bringing her commendable characterisation skills to bear once more in capturing the essence of Carrie Fisher's portrayal of the classic heroine, this time in a pre- A New Hope time: Leia's younger, to-be-defined years as a Princess and Rebel cell leader, as Leia: Princess of Alderaan becomes another must-have book for any Classic STAR WARS fan's collection, out now in the UK from EGMONT.

Aged sixteen, the story begins for Leia on a warm and positive note within the beautiful and peaceful surroundings of her home of Alderaan, as the beloved young Princess takes the traditional time of age vows in readiness to accept her ultimate positioning as the next benevolent and inspiring Queen of her people. The author brings affectionate depth to the character's genesis, effectively weaving the elements together for a memorable and well realized portrait of a young Leia, keeping her early years in continuity with the princess and rebel leader she will become by the time of A New Hope.

Worrying times on Alderaan for Leia and Bail Organa. Art by Chris Trevas.

And in Princess of Alderaan, Leia Organa is certainly young. Very young. She's impressionable, bold, daring, spiky and imaginative-her heart full of passionate neediness to make her parents happy, and genetically hardwired to help and aide her people and the many imperiled across the galaxy by the longstanding dominions of the Galactic Empire. The gusty and instinctive side of Leia we all enjoy may shine through on the outside, but on the inside, however, she still has many of the doubts, insecurities, and worries that any normal sixteen year old would have. even with her privileged royal status. Fallibilities that show on her whilst on the brink of entering womanhood, though with the supportive comfort of having the most dedicated, loyal and loving adopted parents that she could ever wish for In Queen Breha and Viceroy Bail Organa.

Helping her father in his diplomatic work, going back and forth across the galaxy and particularly cultivating her skills from political offices on Coruscant, Leia soon enters the start of her Apprentice Legislature career within the Galactic Senate, whilst finally let off the leash in being able to start doing work on her own that will surely benefit the poorer and less fortunate member worlds within the Empire, many of whom have already had their fates decided for the worst in the prior aftermath of The Clone Wars. Her first solo mission, under the watch and protection of loyal Captain Antilles aboard the Tantive IV cruiser, takes us to the planet Wobani, where her ingenuity and quick-thinking to save and relocate some of its withering populace, working within the tight restrictions prior imposed by the Emperor, quickly establishes her reputation, to be loathed by the irritated Imperials unable to act against her whilst Alderaan wields some political influence inside the Imperial Senate. With this starting point it won't be long before the Princess becomes legendary and exemplified for her "mercy missions". With such maneuverings, even her colleagues and soon friends in the legislature will start feeling a little exhausted by her noble and compassionate efforts.

Undercover in her duty to the Rebellion.

At the same time that Leia is fully seeing the effects of Palpatine's rule and the heavy bullying of his legions of commanders and troopers, the first hints of the Rebel Alliance's attacks on the Empire are now beginning to pique her curiosity, and just as she is starting to feel anxious and unsettled about her parents, that they seem more distant and preoccupied with outer duties of which she knows nothing about. A mysterious situation that soon changes with that early work on Wobani, and Leia's personal investigative discoveries about why her parents have seemingly ignored her. Once revealed, she cannot resist the urge, the calling in her heart, to aid them wherever she can, despite their paternal worries and early protestations. But with the burden pressures and emotional isolation of her family secrets, and not being able to tell anyone else, the risks to life-the death of innocents and the potential discovery of her parents involvement- all too great, how long can she keep a bold front and not feel the need to confide in someone herself?

Amilyn Holdo, as she'll be seen by the time of  The Last Jedi.

As this new calling and its many pressures build, her physical and psychological training for the legislature continues as a welcome and guiding distraction, not just set on Alderaan but other key worlds whose diverse environments are a key to personal growth and inner development, amidst a group of trainees that include a quirky tomboy figure  soon be one of the major Resistance players alongside Leia introduced during The Last Jedi: Amilyn Holdo, very much a quirky spiritualist- of colourful hair and standout manners as one the senate's rising stars, soon winning the friendship of Leia, as she too works within the rules to challenge tyranny and oppression, and whose love of  astrology soon proves beneficial. Most importantly, the Princess will find love, too, specifically with a fellow Alderaanian who is just as passionate and fired up about fairness, justice and peace as she is: Kier Domardi. A young romantic liaison that will surely end in tragedy- as they all seemingly do in fairy tales- though from its consequences will come a stronger resolve in the Princess's heart and mind in wanting to defeat the Empire

Queen Breha of Alderaan gets a fine showcasing in the book.

There's no doubt that Gray's capturing of Leia is impressive but so is the author's development of Alderaan, one of the original mystery worlds of the 1977 film, notably its epicentre Royal House and lineage past and present, all of which is a joy to read, especially continuing on from what was established at the end of EPISODE III and seen with The Clone Wars episode, Assassin. We all know how brave Bail Organa is working under the lines of evil, but this book is noteworthy in bringing to life Queen Breha and her parental relationship with Leia -we realise just how important she will be to the cause and how firm her beliefs are in the rebel fight,

There's some nice cameos from the likes of Rebel heroes-to-be like Mon Mothma, two certain droids, a mention here and there of Saw Gerrera and his trouble-causing partisans, and early spars with the cruel Governor Tarkin, already suspicious of the Organa family's associations. Planet visitations old and new are an integral part of the story, plus another vital link to The Last Jedi with the new/old world of salt and red core that is Crait. Even the Naboo system gets a welcome look-in decades after the prequels- in her visit there, surely the closest that Leia will ever get to seeing her original secret heritage at that point (but never knowing it), she'll meet its current beleaguered queen, as well as an intriguing cameo from a former patriot hero linked to EPISODE I - all of which is nicely handled.

With an intriguing first sign of her powers in the Force subtly revealed, the story ends with a race against time by Leia to aid her father, resulting in the end of her innocence. Even darker days lie ahead for her and the rebellion, but their light will emerge...

AFICIONADO RATING: Not so much a book with a central story, rather a story of character development and growth, about a girl evolving into womanhood and iconic hero-dom within the STAR WARS universe. 4 out of 5

CLASSIC IMAGE: THE JOYS OF FAMILY...

Despite dark and dangerous years ahead with the birth of the Empire, Bail Organa and his wife make the most of their time with the latest addition to their family in adopted baby Leia, during a beautiful moment from the closing scenes montage of EPISODE III, amidst the picturesque surroundings of peaceful Alderaan.

Alderaan and the Organa's last emotional and defiant days as the Death Star looms, during the later events of A New Hope, are effectively and hauntingly revealed in Madeleine Roux's Eclipse, one of forty short stories memorably created to celebrate EPISODE IV's glorious fortieth anniversary: From a Certain Point of View, out now in hardback from CENTURY.

CLASSIC IMAGE: IN DUTY TO THE REPUBLIC!

Bail Organa, adoptive father-to-be of Princess Leia, is finally revealed in the cinematic universe during the opening scenes of EPISODE II, a strong leader amidst a Senate locked in problems with the growing anger of the Separatists, of which the casting of Jimmy Smits couldn't have been more spot-on. It was truly great to have Organa/Smits back in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, via a worthy appearance successfully bridging further the Classic and Prequel Trilogies timelines.

CLASSIC IMAGE: A TIME OF CRISIS!

News of the Jedi slaughter and their supposed insurrection against the Supreme Chancellor is spreading like wildfire across the galaxy. Thankfully, there are brave underground heroes like Bail Organa that know the truth, communicating with the fugitive Obi-Wan Kenobi about the shocking situation, in this scene from EPISODE III.

ROGUE ONE: THE RETURN OF BAIL ORGANA!

No matter how large or small his role may ultimately prove to be in ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, the return of Jimmy Smits as one of the Rebels' key under the radar leader's in Senator Bail Organa is most welcome- like the appearance of Mon Mothma, the continued fusing of Prequel and Classic Trilogies together onscreen is most satisfying.

But if Bail's there, could his adopted daughter and a familiar R2 unit also be present?
