Lufthansa agreement breach

Luxair to stop Frankfurt flights but expand to Munich

Luxair has announced in a statement that it will stop flights to Frankfurt this winter, following a breach of trade agreement with the German firm Lufthansa.

However, the Luxembourg airline will begin operating four daily flights to Munich a day, as oppose to its current three flights.

These changes in flight programmes for Luxair, are the result of a recent decision by Lufthansa to renounce its trade agreement with Luxair on these two routes.

Luxair has chosen to continue serving Munich and abandon the route to Frankfurt, which is used primarily to carry passengers to and from other destinations. The Munich flights fit perfectly into the Luxair’s mission linking Luxembourg and the Greater Region to European cities.

Note however, that flights from Luxembourg to Frankfurt will continue but with Lufthansa CityLine not Luxair.

The Luxembourg airline over recent years, has seen a growth of about 15 percent.

Thanks to its increased capacity resulting from fleet renewal, Luxair will also increase, as of the summer season 2016, its capacity on its routes to the Scandinavian capitals, Stockholm and Copenhagen.

The collaboration between Lufthansa and Luxair in other areas is not affected. Therefore areas where the two airlines collaborate, particularly other flights operated in ‘code-share’ and the ‘Miles & More’ programmes, continue as normal.
