An Australian woman who recently rose to fame as the "Street View Streaker" has come forward to reveal the story behind her footpath "flash", which recently became talk of the town in South Australia's Port Pirie.

Karen Davis was photographed with her breasts bare by Google's Street View car in Barry Street in Port Pirie where she pursued it for a short distance to ensure her image would be captured.

"I look at Google Maps a lot and I wanted to be on there and I thought this is the way to do it," Ms Davis said.

"I also did it for a friend in the United Kingdom. Now he can see me all the time.

"I got to tick something else off my bucket list. I met Sam Newman and now I am on Google Maps."

The 38-year-old has become an instant local celebrity with teenage boys sending her friend requests on Facebook, which she says she's been deleting.

But the response has not been all positive, with Ms Davis being criticised by social media, although she does not let it affect her.

"Haters hate, you got the guts to do it?" she posted on Facebook after the photo went public.

After the image began spreading on Tuesday, Google censored it substantially.

But it's not a first for Google. Davis joins a number of other people to put their 'prized possessions' on show as streets are photographed.

A website, called Google Sightseeing, takes people on an online tour of naked street views.

The Adelaide Advertiser reported that next year she plans to skydive topless for her 40th birthday.
