Marvel Entertainment announced today, “Marvel Rising,” a brand-new, multi-platform animation franchise starring the next generation of Marvel heroes set to launch in 2018. The program will launch with six, four-minute digital shorts that spotlight Spider-Gwen with her new secret moniker, Ghost-Spider, and introduce audiences to the world of “Marvel Rising.” Following the shorts, a feature-length animated film, “Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors” will premiere later that year. Distribution partners for the content to be announced at a later date.

Meet the characters and all-star voice actors behind the all-new franchise “Marvel Rising” above.

The content features an all-star line-up of voice talent including Dove Cameron, Chloe Bennet, Tyler Posey, BooBoo Stewart, Kathreen Khavari, Milana Vayntrub, Cierra Ramirez, Kamil McFadden, Skai Jackson, Kim Raver, Ming-Na Wen, Steven Weber, and Dee Bradley Baker among others. Future stories and content are also being developed across Marvel’s digital and publishing platforms and will be announced at a later date.

“Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors” is a long-anticipated event, bringing together Marvel’s newest and beloved characters that have garnered major fan excitement over the last few years. Powered teens Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake, Patriot, America Chavez, and Inferno join forces as an unlikely, but formidable crew of aspiring heroes. When a threat no one could have expected bears down on the Marvel Universe, this ragtag, untrained band of teens have no choice but to rise together and prove to the world that sometimes the difference between a “hero” and “misfit” is just in the name.

“Marvel characters are so relatable because they live in our world and face the same challenges we do. So I’m very excited that our Marvel Rising team of heroes is so inclusive, reflecting characters with different backgrounds, particularly a set of strong female leads that our young audience can connect with,” said Cort Lane, Marvel’s Senior Vice President of Animation & Family Entertainment.

Meet the characters behind “Marvel Rising”:

Gwen Stacy aka Ghost-Spider (formerly Spider Gwen) voiced by Dove Cameron (“Descendants,” “Hairspray Live”) – a free spirited teen who found her calling to be a super hero after being bitten by a radioactive spider and gaining spider-like powers. As Ghost-Spider, she aids those in need, but has to keep her alter-ego a secret from her father, Captain George Stacy, who sees Ghost-Spider as more of a menace than a hero.

Daisy Johnson aka Quake voiced by Chloe Bennet (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Nashville”) – a leading agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. whose tendency for rule-breaking gets her into trouble now and then. Daisy befriends the young group of heroes and through them discovers how to become a better leader. She can generate powerful vibrational waves, which produce effects similar to earthquakes. 

Dante Pertuz aka Inferno voiced by Tyler Posey (“Teen Wolf,” “Lincoln Heights”) – a brooding, dark loner on the run. Dante has the power of pyrokinesis, which makes him capable of generating flames – however, he is not fully in control of his fiery abilities. It’s a thin line between good guy and villain for the unpredictable Inferno.

Victor Kohl aka Exile voiced by BooBoo Stewart (“Descendants,” “The Twilight Saga”) – a charming, handsome, and troublesome young Inhuman whose quest for superiority places him into the wrong crowd. He can use Darkforce energy to create weapons and portals that allow him to teleport.

Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel voiced by Kathreen Khavari (“Marvel’s Avengers Assemble,” “Big Little Lies”)  – a devoted fan of Super Heroes, especially of her mentor Captain Marvel; she is determined that she too can be a great hero! If only she’d be taken seriously. Kamala is equipped with metamorphic powers that allow her to stretch, enlarge, or shrink her overall size, parts of her body, or alter her physical appearance. She is especially fond of “embiggening” her fists.

Doreen Green aka Squirrel Girl voiced by Milana Vayntrub (“Marvel’s New Warriors,” “This Is Us”) – the uber-positive, hilarious best friend and teammate of Ms. Marvel. With advanced computer skills, enhanced strength, agility, durability, and senses of a squirrel, Doreen (along with her squirrel partner, Tippy Toe!),  is primed and ready to become a successful hero.

America Chavez voiced by Cierra Ramirez (“The Fosters,” “The Secret Life of an America Teenager”) – a strong, independent young hero whose painful past drives her to reject leadership and remain a loner. America’s powers include superhuman strength, speed, and durability, plus the ability to fly.

Rayshaun Lucas aka Patriot voiced by Kamil McFadden (“K.C. Undercover,” “Grown Ups 2”) – a natural born leader who is quick to leap into action to impress his colleagues at S.H.I.E.L.D. Rayshaun strives to live up to Captain America’s legacy with integrity, honesty, and order above all. His skills include heightened strength, speed, stamina, and durability.

Gloria “Glory” Grant voiced by Skai JacksFron (“Bunk’d,” “Jessie”) – Gloria, or ‘Glory,’ is Gwen Stacy’s friend and member of their garage band “The Emm-Jays.” Gloria is a smart, hard-working girl that genuinely cares for Gwen, but has felt a distance growing between them ever since their friend, Kevin, was murdered. When being casual, Gloria’s known to be funny, sarcastic and sassy.

Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel voiced by Kim Raver (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “24”) – a bold leader who doesn’t sugar-coat and is guided by a strong sense of duty and honor. She’s the ultimate inspiration for our band of misfit heroes. She is equipped with superhuman strength, can fly at high speeds, and can project intense energy blasts.

Hala voiced by Ming-Na Wen (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Mulan”) – Hala is a Kree Accuser bent on galactic domination. She’ll go to any length or treacherous means to achieve what she, and the entire Kree race, wants: Power. Hala is cold, cryptic and nefarious, often challenging those who try to oppose her.

Captain George Stacy voiced by Steven Weber (“13 Reasons Why,” “NCIS: New Orleans”) – Chief of the NYPD and Gwen Stacy’s loving, but fiercely protective father. Captain Stacy is a very disciplined, hard-working man that will stop at nothing to obtain justice – who unfortunately sees Ghost-Spider as a menace and a threat to society. 

Lockjaw and Tippy Toe are voiced by Dee Bradley Baker (“Star Wars Rebels,” “Gravity Falls”). Two lovable and heroic sidekicks: Lockjaw is Kamala’s trusty, teleporting mutt and Tippy Toe is Doreen’s partner in crime and best squirrel friend.

“Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors” is executive produced by Joe Quesada, Dan Buckley, Cort Lane, and Eric Radomski; co-executive produced by Stan Lee, Sana Amanat, and Marsha Griffin. The film and shorts were written by Mairghread Scott. Alfred Gimeno served as supervising director.

Spider-Gwen, Black Panther, more are coming to Walgreens in Series 8 of Marvel Animated Minimates!

It’s time for Diamond Select Toys is ready to unveil the next batch of Marvel Animated Minimates, featuring new Super Heroes, new Super Villains and new versions of old favorites!

Series 8 will hit Walgreens stores on or around April 1, 2018, and will include four all-new two-packs. The assortment includes:

• From “Marvel’s Avengers Assemble” / “Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars,” The Wasp is menaced by MODOK! The size-changing heroine includes a removable helmet, detachable wing accessories and a transparent flight stand, while the super-smart, super-sized AIM leader floats on a support stand.

• Also from “Marvel’s Avengers Assemble” / “Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars,” the Black Panther strikes at the evil Madame Masque! The warrior from Wakanda must defeat the beautiful criminal from Iron Man’s past. Black Panther includes a removable mask, while Madame Masque includes an interchangeable unmasked head and hair piece. This is the first Madame Masque Minimate ever made!

The Immortal Weapon's journey continues!

Actress Alice Eve (“Black Mirror,” “Star Trek: Into Darkness”) has joined the sophomore season of “Marvel’s Iron Fist” in an undisclosed role where she joins returning cast including, Finn Jones (Danny Rand), Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing), Tom Pelphrey (Ward Meachum), Jessica Stroup (Joy Meachum), and Sacha Dhawan (Davos). All 13-episodes of the first season of “Marvel’s Iron Fist” are now streaming on Netflix.

“We are very excited to have an actress of Alice’s stature join the cast of ‘Marvel’s Iron Fist,’” said Marvel’s Head of Television and Executive Producer, Jeph Loeb.  “Her exceptional talent brings an intrigue and danger to her character unlike anyone else.”

“We’re over the moon that Alice Eve is joining us this season,” said series Showrunner and Executive Producer, Raven Metzner. “We think she’s going to be a great addition to an already stellar cast.”

In the second season of “Marvel’s Iron Fist,” Danny Rand, The Immortal Iron Fist and Colleen Wing set off on a new adventure as the protectors of Chinatown in NYC – where death, action and surprises await them around every corner.

The Netflix original series is Executive Produced by Series Showrunner Raven Metzner (“Sleepy Hollow,” “Falling Skies”) along with Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” “Marvel’s Luke Cage”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” “Marvel’s Luke Cage”). “Marvel’s Iron Fist” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

This weekend delivers brand new episodes of both “Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars” and “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy”, including the return of a fan favorite actor voicing her beloved Marvel character.

In the “Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars” episode “New Year’s Resolution,” past and present collide as Howard Stark and Peggy Carter team up with Iron Man and Captain America to save the time stream from Kang the Conqueror. Voicing Peggy in the episode is none other than Hayley Atwell, who memorably played Peggy both in several Marvel Studios films – beginning with “Captain America: The First Avenger” – and then in her own TV series, “Marvel’s Agent Carter.”

You can check out a clip of Atwell’s return as Peggy above, as Peggy and Cap, along with Iron Man and Howard Stark (sporting his own armor!) team up to fight Kang.

We’ve also got a clip for you from the new episode of “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.” In the episode, titled “Unfortunate Son,” in order to save the Guardians from the ruthless android Korvac, Quill must bust his father, J’son, out of a prison on Spartax.

“Marvel’s Runaways,” based on the beloved series by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, is now available exclusively on Hulu!

While on set, Marvel.com talked Ariela Barer, who plays Gert Yorkes, and Allegra Acosta, who plays Molly Hernandez; along with Brigid Brannagh, who plays Mrs. Stacey Yorkes, and Kevin Weisman, who plays Mr. Dale Yorkes. The Yorkes are bioengineers who love their daughters to the point where they built them their own dinosaur. That’s right, Old Lace—a genetically engineered dinosaur—what better gift could two kids ask for?

Gert Yorkes and adopted daughter Molly Hernandez get to be sisters by choice. Even better, the sisterly chemistry continues off screen for Barer and Acosta.

“It’s amazing to work with Ariela. We have such a genuine relationship, and you can see that once we shoot an episode together or a scene together,” shared Acosta. “The chemistry is there. It’s real and I just enjoy working with Ariela and being her sister.”

“Especially in the original comic, everyone has this older sibling love for Molly,” Barer added. “When you’re fleshing something out on a show, it’s great to just take it a step further. To have that really run deep in the characters, the script, the story and everything. To just flesh that out to the extreme.”

However, Acosta acknowledged there are parts of Molly she’s trying to understand. “Because she is adopted—and you will see how that progress throughout the season—she wants to know where she comes from. It kind of sounds cliche, but it’s actually true. A lot of kids who are orphans grow up with not knowing. Molly is really strong, really vulnerable and passionate for her age, and very innocent, but still mature. You can see that she wants to fight to find out who her biological parents are.”

As opposed to the other parents, the Yorkes are slightly unsure about the Pride and what it stands for. Brannagh explained, “We actually thought that we were being invited to participate in something that would help the world in terms of our science, and things we wanted to develop. We were told being a part of it will help you, and then you’ve stepped into something we didn’t know right away was something very scary and much more than that. There are consequences. So, we’re trying to get out, like right from the beginning. We’ve been trying to get out as soon as we kind of understood it wasn’t a noble effort.”

The Yorkes are unique in that they foster a warm and inviting home, especially for their daughter Gert. “We’re literally trying to create an independent human being—independent of us, forward-thinking, a true individual, and yet we sometimes, maybe, overly nurture that,” said Brannagh.

Weisman believes it’s important for viewers to see the character of a young independent woman full of socially relevant ideas. Acosta agrees, “Our show is a very female centric cast. We’re representing very strong, yet real, human beings. It’s really important because we have a realm of very amazing women, who will empower and will be relatable to the audience out there. You’re showing that feminism is not based on anger. It’s just based on passion.”

“When I was around her age, that was exactly when I really figured out how messed up the world can be, and I took it very personally, as she also does,” Barer revealing the similarities to her character Gert. “But this anger that she has inside of her is not hate. That’s a common misconception with a social justice character like that. She has no hate inside of her. This anger stems from this passion from wanting a better world and a better life for the people around her, and I think that’s one of the most admirable things about her. She cares so much about the people around her, and she takes it all very personally.”

“She’s flawed, but she’s complex. I think that’s exciting that we’ve gotten to a point with female characters and feminist characters, where they’re allowed to be flawed,” said Barer. “They don’t have to be perfect representations all the time. She can be this flawed human character and still be an incredible role model, who just cares and loves people.”

“That’s part of why we want to get out of Pride,” Brannagh explaining why being in the organization is such a moral struggle for the Yorkes. “We don’t want anything to stop them. Obviously starting with Gert and onto Molly, we want them to stay free.”

Runaways, the celebrated series by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, is making its debut today with the premiere of the first three episodes of “Marvel’s Runaways,” airing exclusively on Hulu!

Marvel.com spoke with the Dean family—Virginia Gardner, who plays Karolina Dean, and parents Annie Wersching, who plays Leslie Dean, and Kip Pardue, who plays Frank Dean. We talked to them about what it’s like for the Deans to have a strong matriarch and how to find a common bond when the world they know starts to fall apart.

Leslie Dean (Annie Wersching), Frank Dean (Kip Pardue) and Karolina Dean (Virginia Gardner)

Leslie Dean role is the leader of the Church of Gibborim, a job that takes up much of her life and much of her emotional bandwidth. This is a way of life the Deans have become used to but soon becomes a complicated issue for their daughter. Wersching explained, “For Karolina, she’s grown up in this church background where her mother is the head of this church and she just always believes that her mom is doing the ultimate good, fighting for good, saving these runaway kids—that her mom is just this amazing woman. And it’s a huge shock, that she doesn’t want to believe when she sees her mom is a part of  the Pride, this horrible organization.”

Leslie Dean (Annie Wersching)

“Leslie’s the only one who really knows what the Pride is for and all about,” Wersching revealing her character’s strong will and role in the Pride. “She’s happy to let other people believe and think that they are the leaders when she is actually the leader of Pride. She’s very good at manipulation—steering people in the right direction, getting people to do things that she needs them to do—she’s very good at sort of guiding people. And I think that’s a good quality about her, in a lot of ways, and also can be kind of intense in other ways.”

It’s no easy feat running both the Church of Gibborim and the Pride. Wersching revealed, “Having to run the Church, or getting to run the Church, it definitely puts a little bit of a strain on the time she has for Karolina and demands she has for Karolina. She wants Karolina to be the perfect face for the youth of the Church. The smile, the hair, all of it. Leslie probably thinks, at the beginning, that her relationship is pretty darn good with Karolina, and has no real understanding of what’s actually going on with her inside. And obviously, that lends itself to give Frank and Karolina a lot more time.”

Pardue expanded on the couple’s issues, “Frank’s relationship with Leslie is, again, like almost every relationships in the show, on shaky ground. For the most part, she’s in charge. She’s this incredibly powerful, obviously beautiful, intelligent woman. And in so many ways, Frank needs Leslie.”

Seeing how much his family is involved in the Church, Pardue feels Frank wants very much to be a part of it, “He wants to get closer and closer. And oftentimes in life, when we start to get closer to something, you learn more about it and maybe it’s different than what we thought it was. As things go on, and Frank starts to learn more, more about Leslie’s double life, or triple life, or quadruple life on some level, it separates him more from her, and brings him closer to his daughter.”

“Karolina finds solace in her dad because he’s not in the Pride and he’s the only parent that isn’t in the Pride. He feels like an outcast from that group, and Karolina feels like an outcast at school sometimes, especially when you first meet her,” Gardner noting the Deans’ father-daughter bond strengthened based on mutual understanding. “She does have a special relationship with her dad for that reason. And the more she finds out about the Pride and what they’re actually up to, the more she takes comfort in knowing that her dad is not a part of that, and can believe that her dad is really a great guy that’s trying to help them.”

‘Marvel’s Runaways’

Gardner believes the Runaways’ journey relates to a lot of teenagers’ realities. “Teenagers are very vulnerable, and it’s great when they find a skill, a hobby or something that helps them regain their strength. This show is a different version of that; it’s a Marvel superhero version of that. It’s cool to play these characters that are so conflicted, and then they find out that they have this amazing strength about them, which I think a lot of kids can find within themselves in different ways too.”

Watch 'Marvel's Runaways' on Hulu tomorrow, November 21!

We’re less than 24 hours away from the debut of “Marvel’s Runaways” on Hulu! It’s time to meet the third family that are at the core of this adventurous series. (Be sure to read up on the Wilders and the Minorus!)

The Steins are scientists; an essential part of the villainous Pride. Marvel.com talked to Gregg Sulkin, who plays Chase Stein; Ever Carradine, who plays Janet Stein; and James Marsters, who plays Victor Stein, about the intensity of the Stein family dynamics.

“Janet Stein is a mom and a homemaker,” shared Carradine. “Her job outside of Pride is to be a PTA mom, a good mom and wife, and kind of keep it all together. As any stay-at-home mom knows, sometimes that’s a harder full-time job than getting to go to work every single day.”

“They do a really good job of showing that there is an emotional toll,” Carradine relating how showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage were key in showing how Janet’s world was built into her character.

On the other end of the spectrum, Victor Stein is the more disengaged of the couple. “Victor is an engineer and an industrialist,” Marsters revealing how Victor’s intensity factored into the character’s personality. “He is trying to make money, but he’s also trying to save the world. He’s not unlike others who’ve come before him; he’s not unlike Henry Ford, or Steve Jobs, or Elon Musk.”

“He is going to be the one to fire you if you are not doing a good job,” Marsters explained. “He’s going to be the one to push his team very hard, and push himself very hard. You can’t move the ball very far if you’re soft. He’s not concentrating on being liked at all. He’s concentrating on saving the world, and if he has to break some eggs, that’s fine.”

“The Pride has painted themselves pretty solidly in a corner,” noted Carradine. “They’re trying to keep their family safe, while maybe maneuvering their way out of the giant Pride corner that they’re painted into.”

Due to the elder Stein’s focus, the relationship with his son is strained. Sulkin discussed the complexities of the father/son relationship. “For Chase, his relationship with his parents is very interesting and very complex. At the start, he does not have a good relationship with his father. As the show continues, you’ll see Chase’s deep, deep love for his father, but he also, at the same time, knows that this man is an evil person, and he’s actually causing harm.”

“It leaves Chase in a very delicate position and situation throughout the season,” continued Sulkin. “But, at the end of the day, blood is thicker than water, and so Chase will always remember that.”

As for Victor and Janet’s relationship with each other? “Our relationship with each other is strained,”Carradine discussed frankly. “Like a lot of couples who have been together a long time, there is pressure to stay committed to one another because of the Pride—there’s a history—and our son.”

“People’s true colors shine through—when something bad happens—and that’s exactly the case with the kids,” reflected Sulkin. “We find out that our parents are evil, and we only have one choice, which is obviously to stop that from happening, and stop what they’re doing from continuing.”

“Over the course of the first season, you’ll realize that yes, things have happened in the past. Yes, we’re not very close,” Sulkin added. “But at the same time, we have to act as a team whether we like each other or not. Friendships, and maybe romances, can blossom along the way.”
