What we did

We made improvements to the station, including:

• creating space for a retail unit in the station forecourt
• a larger waiting room
• new toilets for customers
• improved step-free access to the platform area
• a new canopy from the side entrance to street front
• improved availability of customer information
• improved CCTV.

Why we are doing it

While we are funded through the UK government’s National Station Improvement Project to improve stations, this is at a low level. We wanted to bring forward the improvement of various stations and received ERDF funding to do this. ERDF funding has provided £16m towards the £22m project to improve Aberystwyth, Ystrad Mynach, Port Talbot, Pontypridd and Rhyl stations.
