Transdev announced preferred bidder to operate greater Wellington rail network.Transdev Wellington and partner Hyundai Rotem, today welcomed the news of being announced as the preferred bidder to operate and maintain the Greater Wellington Passenger Rail Service by Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC).

Transdev Australasia’s Acting CEO, Mr Peter Lodge said “We are very excited by the news today and look forward to the next stage of the process and concluding the contract with GWRC in the New Year. We are honoured to be given the opportunity to work with GWRC under the new Public Transport Operating Model”

Alan Bannister, Heavy Rail Business Development Director and Chief Operating Officer of Transdev Hyundai Rotem said “We know that using public transport in Wellington is a part of its residents’ DNA, but there is significant room for growth. Key to our success will be putting customers at the centre of our decision making process, utilising these expectations to form the foundation of service improvements” he said.

Transdev and Hyundai Rotem look forward to working closely with GWRC, rail customers and communities to evolve and grow this important service.

Hyundai Rotem is the South Korean-based manufacturer of Wellington’s existing electric Matangi fleet and has extensive experience maintaining rolling stock around the world.

The contract is expected to commence in July 2016.
