One Walking Dead star will be leaving the zombie apocalypse behind to face off with super-villains in the DCEU.
Cooper Andrews — aka Jerry, Ezekiel's right-hand man and the muscle of The Kingdom — is the latest to join the cast of Lights Out director David F Sandberg's Shazam movie, according to Deadline.
The 32-year-old has been cast as the leader of a children's group home and surrogate father to young Billy Batson (Asher Angel), the boy able to transform himself into the adult superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi).
Aside from The Walking Dead, Cooper has had recurring TV roles in Halt and Catch Fire and The Red Road, and often works behind the scenes on stunts for Hollywood productions.
The cast for Shazam has also been tipped to include perennial big-screen villain Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana, a mad scientist who uses his bizarre inventions to gain power and influence.
Fans of the original Fawcett and DC Comics series shouldn't expect to see Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, since he's decided to spin Shazam's arch-nemesis off into his own solo movie first.
The current plan is for director David F Sandberg to begin filming the superhero movie in Canada next spring, so expect even more casting announcements in the weeks to come.
Shazam doesn't yet have an official release date in the DCEU, but is expected to reach US and UK cinemas at some point in 2019.
