California-based rap artist Saweetie proves she is here to stay with her music video “Focus.” The 21-year-old rapper gained notoriety when she dropped her first single, “Icy Girl,” which garnered her instant virality on YouTube, SoundCloud and Instagram. Her follow up visuals for “Focus” do not disappoint.

In the video, Saweetie effortlessly spits lyrics about growing up in California, attending both Diego and USC and working hard to make her parents proud—all while casually showing off her Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. Saweetie manages to give fans a glimpse into her life, with lines such as “Yeah, my mama is a soldier and my daddy is a G/When you put them two together, what you think that made me? She had me at 17, made it work, she did her thing/Yeah, you did it, love you mama, look how I turned out to be.”

While Saweetie raps over D.R.A.M.’s bass-filled beat “Gilligan,” her inspirational-esque lyrics set her flow apart from the sample. And, if there’s one thing Saweetie wants you to know, with these new visuals and her entrancing hook on this track, is that she’s definitely focused and 2018 may be shaping up to be the year of Saweetie.
