GREAT FALLS -

More than 200 people showed up to the University of Great Falls campus on Saturday to celebrate science by taking part in "March for Science - Great Falls.”

March for Science Co-Chair & UGF Associate Professor in Exercise Science, Kelly Quick explained, “What we’re doing today is we’re gathering people from Great Falls, and the local community in celebration of science. We all believe that science is important in our everyday lives as well as helping us to form good policy and make good decisions. Evidence is our friend.”

Organizers say the event was meant to be non-partisan and simply an effort to celebrate and raise awareness of science education, and the importance of adequate funding for federal science-based agencies.

The event emphasized how science is a highly important aspect to our everyday lives; but also critical for society's ability to make wise economic and policy decisions.

While the event was not meant to be politically-bias, many participants waved signs arguing against the defending of the Environmental Protection Agency, and the deregulation of environmental policies meant to mitigate the effects of human-caused climate change.

One UGF student showed up to emphasize the importance of science for educating our youth and protecting the environment.

UGF Junior biology major & chemistry minor, Evalani Dahlin said, “Being a biology major, I’m very familiar with a science background, and I am a pre-physical therapy concentration. I find it very important for the community and the public to be fully aware of what’s going on in the world right now. There is huge outbursts on climate change as you can see, and it’s just important that everyone becomes aware that we’re here because we’re passionate about the sciences, and we want to make a difference here.”

The event in Great Falls today was just one of 500 sister-marches nationwide...with the main march taking place in Washington D.C.
