Peter Molyneux renaming 'Curiosity' due to NASA search results

Peter Molyneux will rename his new studio's debut release Curiosity in order to avoid confusion with the NASA Mars rover.

Molyneux revealed the news on Twitter, saying that there was a problem with the name Curiosity, before asking followers for new name suggestions.

"Humm there is a problem... [with] the name curiosity, we can't use it because of NASA. I wonder what one word would sum up curiosity:the cube," Molyneux tweeted.

"Some interesting name choices, Will collate them, and probably tweet top choices on @22Cans, (hope to use this as a place for more feedback)," he added.

Despite initial speculation that the name was changed for legal reasons, Molyneux told Modojo that it was to avoid search engine clashes.

"The name change is prompted by the need to have something simple to search for in Google.

"This worked well for Curiosity but since NASA: Curiosity is now obviously generating a lot of interest we need to change the name."

The first game from Peter Molyneux's studio 22 Cans, Curiosity was recently delayed until September.

Curiosity sees every player chipping away at the same virtual cube in an attempt to discover what's inside. However, only the player who performs the final tap will be able to view its contents.

The experiment will be to see whether the final player reveals the game's contents, and how they do so. 22 Cans will monitor how the news of the cube's contents spreads on social media, and use their findings in a future release.

The game will also offer users a selection of enhanced chisels as paid DLC, the cheapest of which costs 59p, while the most expensive is priced at £50,000.

Curiosity will be available on iOS, Android and PC next month.
