Anyone eager to find out the fate of Sterling Archer should find more than enough distraction, as Reed and his team have crafted another fascinating experiment. What, exactly, this dream conveys remains a mystery, but it’s one we’re eager to solve.

This season largely succeeds due to its attention to details. The animation is great as always, the voice acting skilled, and the guest stars are magnificent.

This season of Archer has a great look: this cartoon version of film noir features richly dark blues, greens, and black, and the pacing has the hypnotic pull of a dream turning into a nightmare. Of course, this being Archer, it’s also loaded with lots of double- and single-entendres, and energetic vulgarity.

The series has always moved between clever parody and outright silliness, but this year Archer seems to be paying more attention to the plot along with the jokes.

There’s still plenty of humor, always bending toward the absurd, and Archer’s time travel has not stripped him of his signature phrases, attitude or fondness for bourbon and wordplay.

It may not be delivering a hyper-speed barrage of jokes, but Archer: Dreamland is an inventive fever dream containing pleasures all its own.

There’s no expansion or even mutation of the noir style beyond an increase in humor and a moderate amount of self-awareness, neither of which is strong enough to override how plodding and unadventurous this all feels.

I love this show but this is not a funny joke.

I've watched seasons 1-6 countless times (and season 7 couple times) during last few years and it's been glorious.

Now enter the season 8 - and it's just not all in there anymore. I guess the whole Dreamland theme gives writers different angle to show characters and new setting, but it seems to fall flat. All that is happening in Dreamland seems unimportant and unfunny and boring.

I'm still refusing to let go though! Hoping for Archer's miraculous recovery.

ThisI am a huge Archer fan and have watched each of the previous seasons and have found the show to be hilarious and with clever writing. This season, however, sucked. I'm not sure what happened but I was uninterested in the weird detective noir theme and felt that this season fell flat compared to the other seasons. The season felt quite forced and I found myself wishing that this plot took a few episodes rather than an entire season. As much as I love this show, I'm starting to feel like it has jumped the shark and should be put to rest while it still has a chance to end on a good note. Expand
