The coastal burgh of Carnoustie, originally confined to the south-east of the parish of Barry, has since spread into the parish of Panbride, to include the settlement called Newton of Panbride.

Located at National Grid ref. NO536345. Built 1800, it became Barry West Kirk. It was reduced to a few courses of masonry in the 1960s. The mediaeval kirk on this site was appropriated to Balmerino Abbey in Fife.

* The Fasti mistakenly treat John Souter and John Johnston of Wardmilne as two successive ministers, with the second married to the widow of the first. However, there was an Act of Parliament of 21 Aug 1663, following a supplication by Mr David Johnston alias Souter, student of divinity, Mr John's relative (brother?), for himself and his kinsmen, to change his name from Souter to Johnston, it being claimed that they had previously been of that surname. Mr John's sister Martha married Mr James Fithie, minister of Mains in 1654.
