Man charged with intoxication manslaughter in crash

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 26-year-old man has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after his car ran a red light and smashed into a sedan, killing the woman inside, according to police. The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday at the corner of Gracy Farms Lane and Burnet Road in North Austin.

Police say Shawn Amende was driving his Chevrolet Camaro north on Burnet Road when he crashed into a Nissan Altima. The 20-year-old woman driving the Nissan died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released her name.

Amende and his passenger were both taken to a Round Rock hospital with injuries that were not life threatening. He has since been transported to the Travis County Jail and bond was set at $150,000.

The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Austin Police Department Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at 512-974-4424.

This was Austin’s 27th deadly traffic crash and the 27th death of 2015. At this time in 2014, there were 13 deadly crashes and 18 deaths.
