Welcome Message on behalf of the Steering Committee Chair

The Steering Committee of the Global Wireless Summit (GWS) 2017 welcomes you warmly to the breathtaking city Cape Town, South Africa, where based on the discussion and networking platform provided by the event, you will be able to discuss a variety of research challenges and opportunities that a virtualized communications world would bring about.

GWS 2017 is the fifth event since 2017, which this year is also technically co-sponsored by the IEEE South Africa Section Joint Chapter on Communications and Signal Processing.

Information and communications technologies have progressed rapidly in this millennium allowing for a more immersive and complete user experience, where the virtual and real worlds converge together towards the cyberspace of the future and a plethora of applications to benefit the society and economy.

The vision of GWS 2017 demands inter- and cross-disciplinary approach and the event in Cape Town brings together the various stakeholders, researchers, industrial and standardization and policy experts to focus on both the technological and human aspect arising from that vision.

The setting of GWS 2017 is Cape Town, which is the economic hub of the Western Cape Province, South Africa's second main economic center and Africa's third main economic hub city. It has beautiful surroundings and plenty of opportunities for exploring and relaxing in between professional discussions.

The GWS 2017 program features an unusually distinguished group of keynote and invited speakers, as well as a strong technical program with novel research contributions from the relevant thematic areas from all over the world. In addition, an extensive list of social events have been scheduled to allow for a break from the exciting technical sessions. Please, take the advantage of the many opportunities to network and expand your technical and cultural horizons.

I would like to extend my appreciation to the GWS2017 General Chair and Organizing Committee for their dedication and effort to put together a strong event.

Ramjee Prasad,

Steering Committee Chair
