Deftones Singer's Team Sleep Project Awakening On West Coast

Band lines up 10-date trek beginning December 12 in Chico, California.

Deftones frontman Chino Moreno will debut his Team Sleep side project on a 10-date West Coast tour beginning December 12 in Chico, California.

Moreno and his Team Sleep partners — DJ Crook and guitarist Todd Wilkinson — will be joined on the tour by Deftones drummer Abe Cunningham's other band, Phallucy, who recently released a debut album, Valium.

Team Sleep have been recording their still-untitled debut, due next spring, with longtime Deftones producer Terry Date in Seattle (see "Deftones Members' Side Projects Blossoming").

Former Faith No More singer Mike Patton recently laid down guest vocals with Team Sleep on a track called "Kool-Aid Party" inspired by the 1978 Jonestown Massacre, in which 913 people died in a mass suicide.

Helium singer Mary Timony also contributed to the project on the song "Ligeia," the band's spokesperson said. Moreno's Deftones bandmates appear on the Team Sleep record as well.

Moreno will take a break from pre-production on Deftones' fourth album for the Team Sleep tour.
