Carol P. Christ holds a Ph.D. from Yale in Religious Studies and a B.A. from Stanford with Honors in Humanities. In addition to CIIS where she has been Adjunct Professor since being a appointed a Rockefeller Fellow in 1994, she has taught at major universities in the US including Harvard Divinity School, Claremont Graduate School, and Columbia University. At CIIS she teaches online courses on ecofeminism and feminist and Goddess theologies and spiritualities. She is author of She Who Changes, Rebirth of the Goddess, Odyssey with the Goddess, Laughter of Aphrodite, and Diving Deep and Surfacing, and is currently completing Goddess and God in Light of Feminism, an inter-faith dialogue with Jewish feminist Judith Plaskow. The anthologies she co-edited with Judith Plaskow, Womanspirit Rising and Weaving the Visions have helped to shape the academic study of Women and Religion and Women's Spirituality as multi-religious and multi-cultural. She was the founder of the Women's Caucus in the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature which launched the study of women and religion in the academy. She is Director of Ariadne Institute which offers Goddess Pilgrimages to Crete in spring and fall for which CIIS offers academic credit. She has lived in Greece for many years and has run for office with the Green Party Greece. She is a regular contributor to the Feminism and Religion blog, a diverse community of feminist activists and scholars who write from Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Goddess, and other perspectives. She has been active in civil rights, anti-poverty, anti-war, feminist, and environmental movements all of her adult life. She drafted an official complaint to the European Commission of the European Union about failure to protect the wetlands of the island of Lesbos where she lives.
