Communication, Social media, Trust, Values

February 1, 2017 By elurie Leave a Comment

Day: 1
Session Time/Number:   ?
Session Space: E

Convener: convener?
Notetaker: notetaker?

TAGs for the Session:
communication, social media, trust, values

——————————-
Specific resources to share from session:  (links, books, organizations, articles etc.)
Book: Don't Think of an Elephant!: Know Your Values and Frame the Debate
by George Lakoff

——————————-
Discussion Notes:

Regarding social media:
-Older generation:
share emotion (“I’m angry!”) but not ‘why’
-Younger generation:
don’t share their emotions (perhaps aren’t aware of emotions the way the older generation is)
use their as an escape from current reality
– People are firmly in the bubble of ‘we’re right, they’re wrong’
Action:
-Start with yourself
engage in active listening – Hear/Absorb/Reply
start from a place of agreement
seek to understand, then be understood
Scanning Landscape, then act:
social media is good for getting a sense of the landscape
choose when and how you connect: a general ‘listen to everyone’ is a waste of time
scan, then decide on in-the-flesh action you wish to take
