St. Louis-formed, southern California-based hard rock/emo band Story Of The Year have completed work on a live DVD and are starting work on their third studio album.

According to a post from guitarist Ryan Phillips on the band's website, the DVD took roughly five months to complete.

"Like everything that we do, this DVD is for our die hard fans," Phillips wrote. "It's two years in the life of Story Of The Year. It's more in depth than anything that we've ever done."

Phillips says that the package will be a two-disc set, with the first being an hour-long behind-the-scenes documentary showing the band writing and recording in the studio. The second disc will be approximately 90 minutes long and primarily feature live concert footage. The set will also contain out-takes, deleted scenes and videos. The band released a DVD titled Bassassins in 2004 via Maverick.

After completing the DVD, the band are now working on an as-yet untitled studio album. Phillips says roughly 20 songs have been written and recorded and he's been pleased with the outcome thus far.

"The thing that I'm most happy about is that usually I only like heavier rock or old school metal. For once some of the songs that I've written that aren't all fast and heavy are some of my favorites. That's a huge deal to me.

"I feel like with this record we are going to come out and DESTROY," Phillips says of the album, claiming that it will be the band's equivalent of The Deftones' White Pony.

"It will be Story Of The Year at its very finest."

The group released their last studio album, In The Wake Of Determination, in 2005.

A summer tour is in the works.
