Trade through Bhomra land port resumes

Cross-border trade through Bhomra land port in Satkhira district resumed Saturday, Parliament was told yesterday.

State Minister for Finance Shah M Abul Hossain gave the information, replying to a call attention notice of Gazi Nazrul Islam of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Export-import through the land port remained suspended since June 6 following an undesirable conflict between customs officials and BDR.

The state minister said the land port resumed operation Saturday following the Prime Minister's meeting with local MPs, telegram from the DC and request by Satkhira Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He assured that appropriate measures would be taken for coordination of all the concerned agencies so that the land port worked properly.

The land port is considered very important for cheap and easy transport of goods to and from ports in Kolkata and Haldia in West Bengal.
