Have to admit it guys, we were a bit surprised when we heard the news ourselves. Microsoft has made some huge announcements regarding their upcoming (and supposedly quite revolutionary) Windows 10 OS for multiple devices. Part of that announcement included the launch of its renowned voice assistant service, Cortana for Android and iOS devices. Microsoft’s personal assistant is all set to make its debut on both platforms by the end of June. For those of you who are not aware of the personal voice assistant (considered by some including myself as one of the best voice assistants when being compared to Siri, S voice or Google Search + Google Now), Cortana does a number of things besides just sending out reminders and setting up your daily alarm. The Cortana app can do most of the things it can do on your PC or on a Windows phone. You can have Cortana remind you to pick up milk the next time you’re at the grocery store, and then your phone will wake up and buzz with the reminder. You’ll be able to track a flight using Cortana on both your phone and your PC, and get the updates on the device that you’re on so you don’t miss anything.  Everything in Cortana’s Notebook will show up across all your devices and any changes you make on one device will be reflected when you use Cortana on any of your other devices. The Cortana companion app will help you complete tasks you begin on your PC wherever you are, on your phone. Want to see more?  Watch the video below for a demo:   Although the functionality will be very helpful, because it’s “just an app” there will be certain things that Cortana does on Windows phones that won’t work on Android devices or iPhones.  Some features require access to the system that aren’t currently possible with iOS or Android, so things like toggling settings or opening apps won’t initially be available in the Cortana companions for those platforms.  Similarly, the ability to invoke Cortana hands-free by saying “Hey Cortana” requires special integration with the device’s microphone, so that feature will be limited to Windows Phones and PCs. Many users have talked about wanting a device which would run both Windows and Android on their device, this is termed as “dual-booting” for those that are new to this concept. Now Samsung, Asus and a couple of other OEM’s have tried to start this project but due to Google and Microsoft’s reservations have ultimately decommissioned these projects. All those who dream of owning a dual-boot device, should fret not. Elephone a Chinese based company is here to the rescue. Previously they have been known to come up with some pretty decent devices, like the Elephone P5000 which came with a 5350 mAh battery or the P6000 a 64-bit Android 5.0 running smartphone for only $160. Now the new device that Elephone is coming up with is said to have a a 5.5 inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display with 514 ppi, 4GB of RAM, Intel Atom processor and a 20.7 Mega Pixel Sony IMX 230 camera. A finger print scanner and a battery that is more than 3800 mAh are also part of the package. The best part is this device will be running Android 5.0 Lollipop and Windows 10. How cool is that right? Knowing Elephone’s aggressive pricing strategy this device will not be too expensive, but then again it will not be widely available outside of China as well.
