ARISSAT-1 SSTV Image (Filtered)

Hey look! It's Earth! I think...

This is the first SSTV image I've ever captured. It was sent from ARISSat-1 at 2011-09-25T18:47:11Z and recorded on my computer using a Yaesu VX-8DR and a homebrew j-pole I recently constructed. Yeah, it looks like crap, but... well... IT'S FROM SPACE!

The reason it craps out at the end was because of doppler shift, and the fact that I'm not dynamically tuning my radio to account for it. I guess I need to get a computer-controlled radio next... And a good yagi.

Just wanted to share this post by Greg Knauss. It's good to put things into perspective on occasion.

...but I like the original name for the Sci Fi Channel. Syfy sounds and looks retarded.

Changing the world is a pain in the ass.

New Server

Saturday, May 13, 2006 by darco

After many months of frustration, I finally made it clear to my hosting service that I could no longer tolerate the server that was hosting deepdarc.com. So now it's on a new server. If you are reading this post, it means your DNS has been updated and you should be swell. Hopefully this machine will actually behave. Sheesh.

If you sent an email to me in the past 24 hours, then you may want to send it again. My mail is going to be a little patchy for the next few hours.

Car Trouble

Monday, December 5, 2005 by darco

Despite the fact that I left considerably early, there I was on "El Camino Real"; grotesquely late for my doctor's appointment. I had printed out directions from my workplace, yet I was trying to get there from my apartment. This confusion led to much suffering.

So I was a bit frustrated. And, big surprise, it showed in my driving. I was a bit heavy on the acceleration at times, but I didn't think too much of it. Until I slammed hard on the accelerator to pass this big SUV and all of the sudden I am bathed in the erie red of the "oh shit" light. A warning tone sounds as I notice that I have lost all power. The display LCD flashes “PROBLEM”. No shit sherlock.

Needless to say, I never made it to my doctor's appointment. My car drives, but it's still saying “PROBLEM”. Bad day. Argh.

UPDATE: The light has now disappeared as mysteriously as it came. I have no idea what happened, but I think perhaps I tripped an auto-resetting circuit breaker for the electric motor somehow.

>_<

Well, it doesn't happen very often, but... I am quite sick this morning. :alien: Coughing, hacking, sniffling... My nose, ears and throat feel like crap. I hate to say it, but I might take the day off. :(

SEDE - Steve Ed Darco Elliot

Static Page

Project SEDE was an attempt to create a game of moderate quality on the seemingly dead American Net Yaroze Scene around early 1998. As the name implies, the project was started by 4 people, Steve Tolin, Ed, Darco (Me), and Elliot. Unfortunately the project fell apart after everyone except me lost interest in the project. After seeing that this project was a dead end, and having more interesting ideas to pursue, I finally abandoned the project. I created a visual, WYSIWYG (Except for sprites & objects), multi-layer level editor for the game which made level creation a breeze. I also wrote virtually everything that is in the game except for the music engine, which was written by Elliot. Even it it isn't finished, I am still proud of what it represents—my first real game.
