Welcome to Advising & Counseling at South

We are excited to work with you to help you create a plan to reach your goals!

Students often ask us “What is the difference between an Advisor and a Counselor?”  Great question!  Here’s our answer:

Advisors are professional staff members trained to help you with placement, educational planning, course selection, degree completion, transfer to a four-year university and to provide referrals to other departments on campus who can help you reach your goals. Please explore the Advising Services webpage for much more information on what they provide.

Counselors are faculty members who are trained to help with educational, personal, and career exploration and counseling.  They work with students on goal setting, math and test phobia, exploring majors and careers, personal issues and concerns, and much, much, more.  Please explore the Counseling Services webpage for much more information on what they provide.

Reminder:

In addition to meeting with a counselor or advisor, most students will also need to connect with Registration to register for classes and with Financial Aid to apply for and confirm funding.
