Fiji’s Earnings from Tourism indicate the spending of our international visitors. The figure is derived from an estimated average daily spend of visitors (per diem) and the total visitor days in Fiji.

December Quarter 2017

Key Facts

  • Fiji’s earnings from tourism stood at $482.5 million for the December quarter of 2017, an increase of 2.3 percent ($11.0 million) over the December quarter of 2016.

 

  • The December quarter 2017 earnings was 9.1 percent ($48.2 million) lower than the amount recorded for the September quarter of 2017.

Compared to the December quarter of 2016, the major changes in earnings recorded by  country were as follows:

  • Australia up by 2.5 percent ($6.7 million) to  $271.5 million  contributing  56.3  percent to the total;
  • New Zealand up by 2.1 percent ($1.5 million) to $71.8 million contributing 14.9 percent to the total;
  • United States of America up by 2.9 percent ($1.0 million) to $35.6 million contributing 7.4 percent to the total; and
  • Continental Europe up by 2.3 percent ($0.5 million) to $22.1 million contributing 4.6 percent to the total.

 

 

 

 

These countries accounted for 83.2 percent of earnings in the December quarter of 2017, an increase of 0.2 percentage point when compared to the December quarter of 2016.

  • Earnings went up by 12.3 percent ($197.3 million) when compared to the 2016 figure of $1,602.9 million.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Compared to 2016, the major changes in earnings recorded by country were as follows:

  • Australia up by 12.3 percent ($106.0 million) to $969.1 million contributing 53.8 percent to the total;
  • New Zealand up by 13.6 percent ($34.3 million) to $286.4 million contributing 15.9 percent to the total;
  • United States of America up by 11.6 percent ($14.9 million) to $143.1 million contributing 7.9 percent to the total; and
  • Continental Europe up by 11.3 percent ($8.6 million) to $84.5 million contributing 4.7 percent to the total.

 

 

 

 

 

 

These countries accounted for 82.4 percent of earnings for the year 2017, an increase of 0.1 percentage point when compared to 2016.
