Did You Know? CB Jordan Poyer

The first week of the post-draft, full-team Organized Team Activities are in the books. With a break in the action before training resumes on Monday, let's learn about Eagles' seventh-round pick, cornerback Jordan Poyer. Unfortunately, due to the NCAA's graduation rule, Poyer is unable to take part in these OTAs. But as one of the most-decorated players in Oregon State history, Poyer will have a chance to make the 53-man roster when he returns later this summer for Training Camp.

Parents are Julie and Faalaeo Moviva'a Poyer. Has a brother, Jeramy. Comes from an athletic family. Father played tight end at Eastern New Mexico. Mother transferred to Eastern New Mexico to play volleyball. Poyer's grandfather, Lynn Baxter, lettered in basketball at Oregon State.
According to this article from The Oregonian, Poyer has never met his biological father, Louis Dunbar, who has been in and out of prison for the past 20 years. According to the Minnesota Department of Corrections' website, Dunbar was released this past February.
According to his mother, Poyer's first spoken word was "ball."
In 2008, Poyer had the rare distinction of garnering Oregon Class 4A Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors in football. He led Astoria (Ore.) High School to an undefeated season (14-0) and their first-ever state championship. He threw for 2,135 yards and 22 touchdowns while adding 1,755 yards and 37 scores on 175 carries.
Poyer also helped Astoria win a state baseball championship as a freshman. He pitched and hit 12 home runs that season. In fact, Poyer was known as a better baseball player in high school. He was selected in the 42nd round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft. The only FBS school to make Poyer an offer for football was Oregon State and he didn't initially receive a scholarship.
In his senior season at Oregon State, Poyer intercepted seven passes (returning one for a touchdown) and broke up another seven passes. He was tied for second in the country in interceptions. Poyer earned numerous postseason honors including AP All-America first-team and first-team All-Pac-12.
How fitting is this video. During the Pac-12 media day in 2012, Chip Kelly, then the coach at rival Oregon, interviewed Poyer. Now, they work for the same team.
