The Deputy Minister for Defence, Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, has informed Parliament that work on the  500-bed Military Hospital in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed within 42 months.

The minister said this yesterday on the floor of Parliament in a response to a question by Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Benito Owusu-Bio, who sought to know when the Kumasi Military Hospital Project would be completed.

He said “the contractor took possession of the land on March 28 and as at now, site offices have been erected and canes are being erected at the site."

The minister disclosed that setting for the administration block, Out Patient Department (OPD) building, mortuary building and the incinerator had been complete.

He informed members that last site meeting on the project, the ministry encouraged the contractor to aim at executing an average of 4 per cent of work per

He was therefore optimistic that the project would be completed on schedule in order to improve access to quality healthcare in the Ashanti Region.

On completion, the military hospital in Kumasi would be the second biggest military facility in Ghana, after the 37 Military Hospital.

It is expected to serve the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions, as well as neighbouring countries.

The project was awarded to Euroget De-Invest S.A, a member of the Euroget Group of Egypt at a cost of US$180 million.
