GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers are dipping into the pool of offensive players coming out of Marshall University once again, this time adding undrafted tight end Emanuel Byrd to the 53-man roster.

Byrd, signed Saturday, joins wide receiver Michael Clark, another undrafted free agent who signed with the Packers in May.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Byrd after the draft but released him Aug. 1.

Byrd played quarterback and tight end at Georgia Military College before transferring to Marshall. He played in 21 games over a two-year period at Marshall, catching 45 passes for 456 yards and four touchdowns.

Clark was also a transfer to Marshall, where he played just one season before declaring early for the draft. He had 37 catches for 632 yards and five touchdowns last year.

The Packers gained a spot on the roster when cornerback Herb Waters cleared waivers and was moved from waived/injured to reserve/injured.

In addition, defensive tackle Aiulua Fanene, who signed with the team Thursday, was waived due to a non-football injury.
