Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Join us for a refreshing 2.79-mile morning hike along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail between Kettle Moraine Drive and Hwy 28. A shuttle will be available between the starting and finishing spot. Location: Ice Age Trail parking lot off Hwy 28 (located west of Kettle Moraine Drive near Kewaskum).

The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Celebrate EARTH DAY 2018 by volunteering at your Wisconsin State Parks, Forests, Trails and Recreation Areas!
Volunteers are needed to clear brush from roadways and campsites, clear sand from trails and parking lots and pick up litter. Volunteers should wear work shoes/boots, long pants, gloves and bring shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows if they have them. Individual and group efforts are all welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult.This 271-acre park on the shore of Geneva Lake offers wooded campsites, a sand beach, 6.5 miles of hiking trails, and picnic areas. No alcoholic beverages are allowed anywhere in the park.

Big Tree Planting! Come get your hands dirty by helping plant big trees! These trees will replace ash trees removed because of emerald ash borer. After finishing at the Long Lake Recreation Area and if time allows, we will drive to the Mauthe Lake Recreation Area to plant trees there. Looking for a way to celebrate Earth Day and give back to your favorite Wisconsin state park property? Volunteers are needed to help stain/paint structures, clean up flower beds and pick up litter. Volunteers should wear work boots, long pants and gloves. Please bring your own rakes, shovels and gloves if available. Lunch will be provided by the Friends of Hartman Creek State Park. Please arrive 15 minutes early at the Park Office and check in with staff.

Roche-A-Cri State Park, established in 1948, protects a 300-foot-high rock outcropping and Native American petroglyphs and pictographs. The name "Roche-A-Cri" comes from French words meaning "crevice in the rock." The park has 41 rustic campsites and five miles of hiking trails within a forest of large oaks and pines. Carter Creek in the park offers fishing opportunities.

This primitive island off the tip of the Door County Peninsula and northeast of Washington Island in Lake Michigan offers hiking trails, the oldest lighthouse in Wisconsin and 2000 feet of beach. Vehicles are not allowed on the 912-acre island, making for an experience unlike any other Wisconsin state park. Stone buildings, built by a wealthy inventor and his family, house exhibits. The ferry to the island runs Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day.

Amnicon Falls State Park features a series of delightful waterfalls and rapids along the Amnicon River. You can view them from a covered foot bridge or trails along the river, or-if you're sure-footed-from the rocky shore of the river. The park is a place to picnic, camp, walk in the woods, and learn about the Douglas Fault, the geological formation that created the falls.
