Adopt a Highway

Join us to clean up the highway in front of the park. All equipment is provided. You must be at least 12 years old to participate. A great way to earn service hours, get fresh air and exercise while helping the park! Meet at the Visitor Center.

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Ice Age Trekkers

Time: 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Join us for a refreshing 2.79-mile morning hike along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail between Kettle Moraine Drive and Hwy 28. A shuttle will be available between the starting and finishing spot. Location: Ice Age Trail parking lot off Hwy 28 (located west of Kettle Moraine Drive near Kewaskum).

The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Nature Storytime

Time: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Activities: Children's program, Nature study, Story time
Location: Interstate SP

Naturalist Colleen Tolliver will share a stories, songs and fun activities with pre-schoolers and their parents. A short activity following the story will reinforce the story's nature-related theme. Nature Storytime will generally last between 30-60 minutes, depending on the participants. Time will be spent outdoors, weather permitting. Dress for the weather; dress for fun!. Meet at the Ice Age Center.

Interstate SP information

Interstate is Wisconsin's oldest state park, established in 1900. Located along the picturesque St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, the park provides scenic views of the river and the steep-sided gorge known as the Dalles of the St. Croix. Be prepared to get a little dirty as we unearth what makes up dirt. We'll investigate what lives on and in the soil. This hour of nature fun awaits 3 to 6 year olds with accompanying adults. Location: Ice Age Visitor Center (located off Hwy 67 half mile west of Dundee).

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Havenwoods State Forest is Wisconsin's only urban state forest, featuring 237 acres of grasslands, woods and wetlands in the city of Milwaukee. Hike, run, bike and watch wildlife on over six miles of trails. Explore one of the four ponds, stroll over the 120-foot bridge or find a bench to sit and relax outdoors.

Lawn Chair Bird Watching - Birds and Bagels

All you need is a comfortable lawn chair, a pair of binoculars, and a thermos of your favorite coffee for this morning bird watch. We'll "park" our lawn chair near the parking lot in Steinke Basin and watch for meadow larks, sandhill cranes, red-winged black birds, and much more as we indulge ourselves with a morning of birding. This year the Friends group will be supplying bagels for us to enjoy. Meet at the Steinke Basin Parking Lot.

Devil's Lake SP information

Founded in 1911, Devil's Lake is the third oldest state park in Wisconsin, the largest, and the most visited. Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Enjoy lakeshore picnic areas, sandy swimming beaches, 29 miles of hiking trails, or ease into the backcountry solitude. Devil's Lake is a beautiful year-round park with an intriguing natural history along the 1,000-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Celebrate EARTH DAY 2018 by volunteering at your Wisconsin State Parks, Forests, Trails and Recreation Areas!

Volunteers are needed to clear brush from roadways and campsites, clear sand from trails and parking lots and pick up litter. Volunteers should wear work shoes/boots, long pants, gloves and bring shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows if they have them. Individual and group efforts are all welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This 271-acre park on the shore of Geneva Lake offers wooded campsites, a sand beach, 6.5 miles of hiking trails, and picnic areas. No alcoholic beverages are allowed anywhere in the park.

Big Tree Planting! Come get your hands dirty by helping plant big trees! These trees will replace ash trees removed because of emerald ash borer. After finishing at the Long Lake Recreation Area and if time allows, we will drive to the Mauthe Lake Recreation Area to plant trees there. After completing the planting, a light lunch will be provided. Bring your own gloves. To register, call (262) 626-2116 by April 19. Looking for a way to celebrate Earth Day and give back to your favorite Wisconsin state park property? Volunteers are needed to help stain/paint structures, clean up flower beds and pick up litter. Volunteers should wear work boots, long pants and gloves. Please bring your own rakes, shovels and gloves if available. Lunch will be provided by the Friends of Hartman Creek State Park. Please arrive 15 minutes early at the Park Office and check in with staff.

Roche-A-Cri SP information

Roche-A-Cri State Park, established in 1948, protects a 300-foot-high rock outcropping and Native American petroglyphs and pictographs. The name "Roche-A-Cri" comes from French words meaning "crevice in the rock." The park has 41 rustic campsites and five miles of hiking trails within a forest of large oaks and pines. Carter Creek in the park offers fishing opportunities.

Rock Island SP information

This primitive island off the tip of the Door County Peninsula and northeast of Washington Island in Lake Michigan offers hiking trails, the oldest lighthouse in Wisconsin and 2000 feet of beach. Vehicles are not allowed on the 912-acre island, making for an experience unlike any other Wisconsin state park. Stone buildings, built by a wealthy inventor and his family, house exhibits. The ferry to the island runs Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day.

Amnicon Falls SP information

Amnicon Falls State Park features a series of delightful waterfalls and rapids along the Amnicon River. You can view them from a covered foot bridge or trails along the river, or-if you're sure-footed-from the rocky shore of the river. The park is a place to picnic, camp, walk in the woods, and learn about the Douglas Fault, the geological formation that created the falls.
