Rafael Palmeiro, 54, signs pro contract in bid to return to majors

Apparently 500 home runs and 3,000 hits weren’t enough for Rafael Palmeiro. The 54-year-old slugger, who spent most of his major-league career with the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles, has signed a new contract with an independent minor-league club, the Cleburne Railroaders.

Cubs place Heyward on 7-day concussion DL, recall Tseng
