What To Do If Posted to Artists Beware

A place to voice positive or difficult experiences with commissioners or artists. This includes both paid transactions and art trades. Customer and artist reviews, lost contacts, and reports of art theft are welcome.

This community is also open to discussions and questions on how to conduct business between artists and their customers.

EXPLAIN:

My husband (raziel0682) and I commissioned Exodite on the last day of Anthrocon 2013 at the urging of a friend. At the time, he asked that we pay him via paypal. We did so, paying $50. He assured us work would be started that day.

So, we waited. I sent him a note shortly after AC about the commission. He opened it. Didn't respond.

I commented on his page. No response. Commented again a few weeks later. Again, no response or acknowledgement.

I sent him IMs via his publicly available IM screenname. No response.

As of now, all attempts to contact him have met with nothing. He makes public entries about livestreaming, about working on his queue (a massive list that can be seen here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ap4naVuBuS7adF85cVZ1Q3BjcTFfWEpSMjhqNjVBaHc#gid=0 but has not responded AT ALL to any of my attempts to contact him.

I have sent him one final note asking for contact, with the intent of pursuing legal action if there is no response.

All I wanted was some progress shown, or even just some sort of contact. But his continued ignoring of all of my attempts has made this transaction a considerably soured one for me.

He's posted on his journals numerous times about how he's going to contact everyone he owes art to, how he's going to respond to all his notes, but mine sit...he's read them, but no response.

Edit: This has since been resolved via very polite note and refund.

Hi all,
This is my experience with Exodite Dragon aka Astralabortion I just want to show everyone how difficult it can be with some artists. This really sucks cuz I REALLY dig his work.

Short version: We talked online about two commission. He gave me the price of $200, I paid him on 3/31/09, on 7/13/09 he said he wouldn't do it, and finally get my money back 9 months after original payment on 12/19/09 (today)

Update - 04-11-2009:
I had sent an e-mail and FA note perhaps a week or so ago saying for him to just send the badges already.
I would pay for shipping if I had to.
I was tired of being lied to and hearing: "This week." and "Soon."

BUT

Nica talked to him tonight.
Both badges are done.  [We got to see proof... fuzzy, blurry proof.]
He explained to Nica some complications he's had these past months.
Buttz said: "I can finally, -finally- send your shit out tomorrow."

A lot of this could have been avoided by better communication.

Thanks again to all his friends who helped.

First:  Thank you, everybody, who helped me and Nica stay in contact with this guy.  It's been a frustrating ordeal for all sides, I'm sure.  It seems to be resolved.

Got hold of Astral / Buttz tonight on AIM.  Addresses have been sent, and he says badges will be sent out Saturday.  He also said tracking numbers will be given to me.  Anybody who badge commissioned him at AnthroCon has been offered half off a future commission.

First, thanks everybody who helped me and my fiance Nica locate Astral Abortion. We're still waiting for our badges, but we have contact through a friend of his so we can stay updated (thank you very much).

This year at Anthrocon, I went around Artist Alley and found myself admiring the works of one particular artist. He called himself Cpt. Buttz, aka astralabortion on FA, aka exodite dragon...

Anyways, I commissioned himself for a $45 badge, which i've seen -once- near completion during the con. However, it seemed that keeping track of him was next to impossible, so I ended up leaving empty handed from the convention without my badge. The last I heard and seen of him was about the last day of the convention, assuring me that all he needed to do with laminate the badge and it would be ready. And he also told me that he would be in the Zoo that night, just so I can pick it up...

I haven't seen, heard or had any contact with him since.

It's now August 4th, its well over weeks now, and he hasn't sent a single note or even READ any notes on FA. This is greatly angering me and I wondered if anyone else has commissioned him has the same problem too.
