Amplify Releasing has acquired worldwide rights to the documentary “Hurricane of Fun: The Making of Wet Hot,” which offers a behind-the-scenes look at the 2001 cult indie “Wet Hot American Summer.”
The film, which is available on iTunes starting today, will be released on digital platforms.
“The Making of Wet Hot” is directed by Amy Rice (“By the People: The Election of Barack Obama”), who served as the set photographer of the original film. Rice shot 25 hours of footage at the time that she used to stitch together her doc.
“If your friends buried a time capsule for you 15 years ago, filled it with stuff that would make you really happy, and you just came upon it, ‘Hurricane of Fun’ would pretty much be that,” said Dylan Marchetti, chief creative officer for Amplify Releasing, who negotiated the deal with producer Jack Turner of Matador. “If your home movies were this much fun, you’d never leave your house.”
The doc features interviews with the cast, including Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd and Bradley Cooper, and was executive produced by David Wain, Howard Bernstein, Jay Peterson and Todd Lubin.
Interest in “Wet Hot American Summer” is high with Netflix’s release of eight episodes of “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp,” a TV series set before the film. “The Making of Wet Hot” is also available on Netflix in the United States, Canada and select regions.
