March 2, 1916 - called into the Russian military and assigned to the aviation unit in Petrograd
Nov. 14, 1917 - Graduates from the advanced program at Moscow flight school and is
designated a military pilot.
During the Russian Civil War he flies for the bolsheviks. Rank: Corporal
May 9, 1919 - he flies his Nieuport 24bis from the bolshevik side over to the German forces,
and he flies for the germans until June 28 when he joins the Latvian Aviation Group.
Flies missions first against the Bolsheviks and later against Bermont-Avalov.
Served as assistant to the British Captain Arnold as they surveyed the equipment abandoned by the Germans and Russians.
July 29, 1919 - Assigned to commission overseeing acceptance of war trophy aircraft.
Sept. 23, 1919 - Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
November 10, 1919 - strafes the enemy ranks, both with machine gun
fire and bombs. His engine is hit by return fire and he is forced to
land in no-man's land. Under heavy fire, he crawls to the nearest
forward post and makes his report on enemy troop movements. (Mentioned
in his Lacplesis Award citation).
Decembr 20, 1919 - Promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
May 12, 1920 - while flying a reconnaissance mission on the Latgale Front, he has to make a forced landing near Pitalova. He
was able to repair the engine, take off and return to Rezekne unharmed.
November 26, 1920 - founding member of the original Latvian Aero Club.
June 28, 1921 - awarded the Lacplesis Order (3rd Class)
Served as an instructor at the aviation school
Test-flew aircraft which had been rebuilt after they were captured from the Germans
Nov. 27, 1922 - completed the military college officers program
Nov. 18, 1923 - Promoted to the rank of Captain
October 11, 1923 - Commander of the Reconnaissance Squadron.
Sept.3, 1924 - Flies SVA #29, with R.Gulbis as passenger. (R.Gulbis' log book)
Sept. 24, 1925 - transferred to Naval Aviation
Dec. 29, 1925 - appointed Commander of the Naval Aviation Section
May 31, 1926 - the Naval Aviation Section is renamed as the Juras Aviacijas Divizions with Jakubovs as Commander.
Nov. 18, 1926 - promoted to the rank of Lt.Colonel
January - April 1927 - temporarily assigned to gain experience at the French school of
Naval Aviation.
January 29, 1930 - the Latvian Aviators Society unanimously nominates V.Jakubovs for the Clifford Harmon trophy as Latvia's most accomplished aviator.
May 25, 1930 - participates in the Aviation Festival at Riga/Spilve.
1930 - The International League of Aviators recognizes Jakubovs as
the foremost Latvian aviator in 1929.
October 3, 1935 - replaced by Zarins as commander of the Naval Aviation Division
September 8, 1935 - Participates in the Aviation Festival at Riga/Spilve.
OCt. 3, 1935 - released from military service, reportedly at his own request.
June 7, 1939 - As part of the Aviation Regiment's 20th anniversary, he is awarded the Viestura Ordenis III.class (with swords).
February 20, 1940 - (Soviet Occupation) arrested and imprisoned
September 30, 1941 - dies in prison in Orenburg
November 25, 1993 - his name is officially "rehabilitated" by the post-Soviet Russians.
