Synopsis

Drama. The story of how, in the 1840s, the successful novelist Charles Dickens overcame a creative block to devise, write and make an influential success of his short novel 'A Christmas Carol' in a culture that was showing little interest in the celebration of Christmas. Once Dickens has invented Scrooge, the fictional miser and other characters 'appear' and join the author in his literary quest. As Dickens writes, desperate for a hit (after three flops in a row), deep in debt and with his wife Kate pregnant with another child, Dickens finds inspiration in the London around him, and he also has to contend with the anger and shame he feels towards his father, a sponger forever spending beyond his means, and a failure in his son's eyes, but who has kindness in his heart.
