John G. Kemeny, 1926-1992, mathematician, college president. Professor of Mathematics, Dartmouth College 1953-1989, co-inventor of the BASIC programming language and the first functional time-share systems, the Dartmouth Time-Sharing System (DTSS). 13th president of Dartmouth College from 1970 to 1981. Papers consist of personal and professional correspondence; reprints of journal articles written by Kemeny; speeches given while president of Dartmouth; magazines, newspaper clippings, and Dartmouth publications; a rough draft of Kemeny's autobiography; daily schedules while president of Dartmouth; and numerous publications and reports relating to the nuclear accident at Three Mile Island. |
