FIVE RENEW CONTRACTS FOR NEXT SEASON

FIVE RENEW CONTRACTS FOR NEXT SEASON

By: HIBERNIAN MEDIA on 09 May, 2017 12:54

Hibernian can confirm the renewals of five player contracts as we prepare for the 2017-18 season.

David Gray, Darren McGregor, Lewis Stevenson, Marvin Bartley and Ross Laidlaw have all committed to Hibernian for a further two years.

Captain David Gray, who has been at Hibernian for three years, has been a mainstay during his time at Easter Road. With 122 appearances to his name in a green and white jersey, he famously scored the winning goal in the William Hill Scottish Cup Final of 2016 and has also helped guide Hibernian back to the top tier of Scottish football.

Darren McGregor’s performances have seen him become a firm favourite with the supporters. His tough-tackling and solid presence in defence earned him a place in the PFA Team of the Year in both his seasons with Hibernian, whilst his aerial threat at set-pieces has also seen him score five goals for the team he grew up supporting – including two in the 3-0 win over Queen of the South that sealed promotion back to the Ladbrokes Premiership.

With over 350 appearances to his name, Lewis Stevenson has played his part in previous Hibernian successes, as well as recently. Making a big impact when he came through the Hibernian Youth Academy, the left-back, who initially started out as a midfielder, is the only player in the Club’s history to have winners’ medals for both the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup, and has played a major role in this season’s Ladbrokes Championship title win.

Renowned for his ability to stifle opposition midfielders and attackers, Marvin Bartley’s performances in matches have earned him plaudits from supporters and pundits. Anchoring the midfield and thwarting attacks is undoubtedly the strongest aspect of his play, with his presence in the team helping the squad achieve a high number of clean sheets this campaign.

Ross Laidlaw has also resigned and the goalkeeper, signed from Raith Rovers, has proven himself to be an able deputy to Ofir Marciano in the 2016/17 season. Making his debut in the UEFA Europa League tie away to Brondby, Ross’ performance helped Hibernian to a 1-0 victory in Denmark with a series of fine saves. He has played 18 times for the Club and kept seven clean sheets.

Hibernian can also confirm that James Keatings will join Dundee United following the expiration of his contract. James played a significant role in the club’s league and cup successes over the past two seasons and we would like to wish him well in the future.
