Real Madrid visited Athletic and Van Nistelrooy got the only goal of the game in a crucial 0-1 win, which moved the Whites one step closer to their LaLiga triumph at the end of that season. The goal came about as the Dutchman intercepted a pass deep inside the Athletic half, carried the ball a few steps and unleashed a powerful drive into the top corner from outside the area.
