Former President Alfredo Ovando Candia of Bolivia, who led the military campaign in which the Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara was killed in 1967, died Sunday of a stomach illness.

He was 65 years old.

General Ovando was considered the principal reorganizer of Bolivia's armed forces after their dissolution in 1952. He served as co-President in 1965-66 with Gen. Rene Barrientos after the two overthrew President Victor Paz Estenssoro and was President again for 14 months in 1969-70.
