Website Support

I am having trouble printing your pages. What can I do to ensure acceptable print outs?
Check the print preview for the article that you wish to print. Some browsers may adjust the page by default. If this appears not to be the case, we make the following recommendations:

1. Set your browser's print options to "Shrink to fit page." Our pages are formatted for screen width; sometimes older browsers mistakenly print the last few characters of each line on a new page. Allowing your browser to fit the page to your printer's page width will eliminate this problem.

2. For ease of reading onscreen some longer articles are continued on multiple pages. On articles not equipped with the printer-friendly link, it will be necessary to print each of the article's segments in succession in order to print a complete copy.

Which web browser is recommended for viewing the website?
Our site is designed to be fully supported by recent versions of Chrome, Safari, and Firefox, as well as Internet Explorer 11 and Edge.

The website looks wider than my screen. How can I see the full width?
Most computers are capable of multiple screen resolutions. Higher resolutions fit more information onto the same monitor, the trade-off being that each pixel is just a bit smaller. We recommend setting your display to a resolution of 1024x768 or higher. This is accomplished via your system's control panel, rather than within the browser.

If you are using a Mac: Open the System Preferences application. Under Hardware, select Displays. Select a resolution greater than 1024x768.

If you are using a PC: Open the Control Panel from the Start button. Under Appearance and Personalization, go to Adjust screen resolution. Click the dropdown list next to resolution, and select a resolution higher than 1024x768.

I am having a hard time reading the small text on your website. Can I increase the size of the text?
You can use the menu on your browser to zoom in.
Google Chrome: Click the settings button (located to the right of the address bar). Part way down the list is a Zoom option. Use the plus sign button to increase text size.
Firefox: In the browser’s menu, go to View. Select Zoom. Select Zoom In.
Safari: In the browser’s menu, go to View. Select Zoom In.
Internet Explorer: Click the Tools option (gear icon), go to View, and then select Zoom.

Can I create an account on The Atlantic website?
Yes. Follow these steps to create an account with The Atlantic.

  1. Create an account on our Create Account page.
  2. Enter your email address and a new password. You may also create an account using your Facebook or Google+ account. If you are a subscriber, we recommend that you use the email address associated with your subscription.
  3. If you are a subscriber, link your subscription to your new account using your account number, found in your confirmation email or on your print magazine label after “ATL”.
  4. You will receive an e-mail prompting you to click on the confirmation link to complete your registration.

Why should I create an account on The Atlantic website?

You can create an account with The Atlantic to conveniently manage your subscription and your emailed newsletters. If you are a subscriber to The Atlantic, you will need to create an account to access the iOS app on an iPad or iPhone or the Android edition on an Android device. If you have the Print + Digital or the Digital subscription to The Atlantic, your Digital Library will be found in your account.

I'm not using an ad blocker. Why am I unable to view the website?
If think you have already disabled your ad blocker or whitelisted The Atlantic, please first refresh your browser window.
If this does allow you to view the website, your browser or workplace could have an ad blocker installed automatically. It is also possible you are running a script or code blocker — such as a JavaScript blocker, PageOne, or Ghostery — that will keep our ads from running. In either of these scenarios, select “Whitelist” to consider options for allowing ads and scripts on The Atlantic or purchase Ad-Free Access to view the website while blocking ads and scripts.

Are the ads on The Atlantic website secure?
We require https compliance from our advertisers and work to ensure all ads on our website are secure. We maintain a fully secure https website and actively monitor to ensure we do not show insecure scripts or ads.

Why do I not see your Create Account page when I try to create an account?

Our Create Account page uses scripts from our registration provider Janrain. If you are using a script blocker — like Ghostery — you will need to whitelist Janrain to create an account with The Atlantic. Instructions for how to whitelist Janrain and The Atlantic can be found here.

Do I need to create an account to purchase Ad-Free Access to The Atlantic?

Yes, in order to purchase Ad-Free Access, you need to create an account with The Atlantic. If you have already created an account, you can click on log in and proceed to the purchase page. If you have not, you will be prompted to create an account and then proceed to the purchase page.
