Walker picked up by the Washington Capitals

When Nathan Walker was picked up by the Washington Capitals last year, he became the first-Australian to play in the National Hockey League (NHL). After the Capitals earned a series victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday, Walker has also moved closer to becoming the first Aussie to win the Stanley Cup.

Nathan Walker “Assists” in Capital’s Victory

Going into the second-round series, one could not be faulted in saying that the Capitals entered this series matchup with the odds stacked against them. The Pittsburgh Penguins are the 2017 Stanley Cup winners and the Washington Capitals’ postseason record against the Penguins is less than favourable at 1-9 over the last ten years.

At first, it may have seemed as if history was going to repeat itself, with the Penguins starting off the series with a victory. However, this was followed by two wins for the Capitals. The Penguins then won Game 4 to tie the series back up, which was then followed by another Capitals victory in Game 5.

The Capitals entered Game 6 knowing that they needed one final win to end the series. The Capitals took the lead early in the game after Nathan Walker fed the ball to Alex Chiasson for a shot that resulted in the game’s opening goal. The Penguins later equalised to send the game into overtime.  In overtime, Capitals forward, Evgeny Kuznetsov, managed to find the back of the net to send his team to the Eastern Conference Final for the first time in 20 years.

What are Bookies Pegging Nathan Walker’s Odds at?

The Washington Capitals next series match is against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Final. Should the Capitals win, they will go on to play in the Stanley Cup Final against the winners of the Western Conference Final.

At the start of the postseason, the Capitals started with the odds set at 7/1 against winning the Eastern Conference Final and 14/1 against winning the Stanley Cup. After last night’s game, these figures have most likely improved dramatically.
