25 April 2017

The winger claimed the top prize on the night.

Anthony Knockaert capped off a truly unforgettable campaign, after he held off competition from David Stockdale to claim the Brighton & Hove Albion 2016/17 Player of the Season award.

The Frenchman picked up the accolade at the club’s Players’ Awards Dinner at the Amex tonight after gaining 36 per cent of the fans’ votes.

It follows on from his success at last month’s EFL Awards, where he was named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year.

Stockdale came second in the list with 22 per cent of the vote, while defender Lewis Dunk claimed third place with 19 per cent of the vote.

Solly March was named the club’s Young Player of the Season by the first-team coaching staff, while Steve Sidwell’s stunning long-range strike against Bristol City won the Goal of the Season award, taking 52 per cent of the votes.

In a poignant part of the evening, Andrew Lock, son of the late Don Lock, won the James Brynin Fan of the Season Award.

Danny Hemsley, who lost his leg in a freak accident, won the Sarah Watts Inspiration Award after playing for Albion in the Community’s amputee football team and being called up to the Great Britain squad.

Callum Ronald, a BTEC student who endures lengthy travel to college each day and is set to get the highest mark, won the Albion in the Community Award as voted for by the fans.
