Taipei, April 14 (CNA) The main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) said Tuesday that it will officially nominate DPP Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) as its candidate for the 2016 presidential election during a meeting of its Central Executive Committee slated for the following day.

After the nomination process, Tsai will hold a press conference to which the heads of 13 cities and counties governed by the party have been invited.

During the press conference, Tsai will issue a statement expounding on the concepts of accountability and responsibility and ways to help bring confidence back to Taiwan, while expressing her perspective on Taiwan's outlook, according to a party member.

Tsai registered Feb. 15 as a contender in the party primary for the 2016 presidential election. The party's Central Executive Committee approved her nomination submission Feb. 25. She is running unopposed.
