Exclusive interview with the author:
1) Your characters seem so alive and real… what’s your secret?
I love to delve into the psychology of characters – What shaped them when they were younger? How do they cope emotionally because of it? I’m one course shy of a psychology minor and in fact, just wrote a craft book which makes character psychology easy.
2) Let’s talk about your main character, Mandy Zapien. How did you think him/her up and is there any of you in him/her?
Part of Mandy’s dilemma is she cared for her grandfather, and is left dealing with his last wishes (which don’t exactly benefit her). My father and mother-in-law died while I was writing this book and some of their last wishes were…not exactly what I agreed with. But you have to honor it. So some of that emotion probably came from me.
3) Who’s your favorite character in the book and why? Who was the most fun to write?
I love the hero – Ben. He gives up a lot to help his father – putting his career on hold – and then taking care of his best friend’s daughter. He’s a young fireman and should be enjoying the bachelor life. I love an honorable man.
4) If you could have one super power what would it be?
I would want the time-turner that Hermione had in Harry Potter. There are never enough hours in a day!
5) Do you have a favorite writing beverage/snack?
Coffee with flavored creamer. It’s probably healthier to drink it black, but that’s not my thing.
