Has Article Marketing Gone the Way of the Dinosaurs?

Since Google’s Panda update rolled out early this year, there has been a lot of buzz regarding the fate of article marketing and the benefits that this can give webmasters. In fact, a number of modern-day internet-age Nostradamuses dropped prediction after another that the death of article marketing is inevitable and which didn’t bode well for the entire online writing community.

Has Article Marketing Gone the Way of the Dinosaurs?

If you’re using articles to promote your website, business, products, services or even yourself through article marketing then this might have given you the impression that all your hard work has gone to waste. But before you go out and start wallowing in despair, let us first take a closer look into article marketing and what its future holds for SEO.

Is article marketing extinct?

In my opinion, the simple answer is a big “NO.” Article marketing continues to be one of the best online advertising methods and remains to be essential for any link building strategy. If article marketing is really dead then how could you explain thousands of article writing jobs posted daily on freelance websites such as Freelancer, Elance and even in Craigslist?

If article marketing is really dead then how can you explain the thousands of articles being submitted daily to article submission sites? Article marketing isn’t dead – the rules were just altered. The cheese was just moved, it’s up to you whether you’ll cry over spilt milk or adapt accordingly to the new changes that Google has introduced with its Panda update.

Panda Changes

Google’s latest game changer aims to penalized websites with low quality and duplicate content. This, while at the same time improving the rankings of websites that feature excellent content. Highlighting articles that are more relevant to Google searches, basically what the average Google searcher wants to get from his/her Google search.

The Google Panda Update also penalized websites that utilize black hat SEO techniques such as excessive keyword stuffing, spamming, links farms, and mass-article publications.

Coping with the Panda

If you’ve lost a significant amount of your usual Internet traffic due to Google’s Panda Update then you could go out the easy option and leave article marketing behind or try to cope with changes of the latest update. However, if you choose the second option, there are a lot of things that you should put in mind.

First and foremost to remember is that no black hat SEO is going to reward you. Black hat SEO is simply outright unfair to your fellow webmasters. Learn to write excellent quality articles is the best way to maximize the potential of your article marketing efforts. Writing exclusively for search engines is a thing of the past. What you should do is to learn how to write for the average Internet user. Research your niche market or your industry and familiarize yourself with what people in your niche market/industry wants.

Content is always king and learning how to write your own high quality content is vital in today’s post-Panda era – an era wherein the rules of article marketing has been altered. Besides Google is not the only search engine out there. You may have lost some steam over at Google but your Yahoo and Bing stats will always be there to bring you some traffic.

You can get paid really well for writing articles as well, like I know a site that pays you up to ten US dollars an hour for product reviews, or you can get up to three dollars straight up, and an ongoing residual income (average one cent a day per article, depending on views), for writing an article that links back to your site, and drives traffic.
