Airport overview
International Vienna Airport is the biggest airport in Austria. It handles more than 20 million passengers per year. It is located 18 kilometres from the city centre. Vienna Airport terminal is a comprehensive service to passengers on 3 levels. Each of them is further divided into zones of departures and arrivals. In addition, there are also stations for direct passenger service where you will find a lot of points of sale. There are, among others, banks, Currency Exchange, ATMs, pharmacy, grocery stores, bookstores, press lounges, duty free shops, post office, kiosks, over 30 eateries (restaurants, cafes and bars), as well as a chapel.
Most toilets are adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, their disposal is also a special point of support, which facilitates the use of the airport. The terminal also operates a medical and special rooms for parents with children.
Public Transport
The quickest and cheapest option is the train, which runs 1-2 times per hour, and travel time takes about 20-30 minutes. Tickets in the price of 3 Euros can be purchased on the platform of the underground railway in the machine, or directly on the train. The train reaches the centre of Vienna.
The second possibility is a transfer bus, which runs to Schwedenplatz. In that option a normal ticket will cost 6 euros, a discount ticket 4 euros, and the carriage of children up to 6 years is free. Access by car
If you do not prefer public transport, you can go to Vienna by car. To drive to the city centre you have to enter the A4 motorway, which connects to the A1 to the west (e.g. In the direction of Salzburg) and A2 to the south (e.g. In the direction of Graz). The road to the city should address you about 25 minutes. At the airport there are five parking areas filling more than 20 000 vehicles. Short-term parking K1 (for drivers importing passengers) and K3 (for drivers receiving passengers) are located opposite the terminal. Long-term multi-storey car park P3 and P4 is connected to the terminals. A taxi rank is located in front of the arrivals hall. All taxis have a taximeter. You can also order a taxi at the taxi stand at the airport and pay for it in advance. Driving time to the city centre is approximately 20 minutes.
