WHAT'S NEW

2017 Certificate of Recognition

Water Plant Operators Jim Burris and Darrell Jose received the award for Perfect Compliance with Community Water Fluoridation in accordance with the Illinois Public Water Supply Regulation Act for 12 consecutive months of maintaining perfect compliance.

New Codes Adopted

As of March 1, 2018 the City adopted the 2012 Building Code, 2012 Residential Code and 2012 Property Maintenance Code.  For a list of all adopted codes please click here.

Yard Sales

Along with the warm weather comes yard/garage sales.   Don’t forget to get your yard/garage sale permit.  They are FREE and can be obtained at the City Clerk’s office Monday – Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.  Yard/garage sales are allowed two times a year with a duration not to exceed seventy-two (72) continuous hours.  Also, City code prohibits the placement of signs or advertising on utility poles, traffic control device, or anywhere in the public right-of-way.  We appreciate your cooperation and good luck with your sale.

Weed Overgrowth

All City of Wood River property owners and occupants of real estate are hereby notified by this notice of the City’s weed control ordinance and enforcement.

It shall be unlawful for any owner or occupant of any lot of ground or premises to allow such lot or premises or any right-of-way or sidewalk adjoining such lot or premises, to be encumbered by any growth of grass or weeds over a height of eight inches.

Whenever any owner or occupant of real estate neglects to cut weeds or grass, as defined above, the weeds or grass may be cut by the City.  The property owner will be billed for all expenses involved in having the weeds or grass cut.  If the property owner fails to pay the billed expenses within 30 days, a lien may be filed pursuant to ILCS Ch. 65, Art. 5 § 11-20-7.

New Police Station

Construction is underway and moving right along on the new 20,000 sq. ft. Police Department facility.  Estimated completion is December 2018.

Holidays Observed for Trash Pickup

The following holidays are observed by Republic Services:

Should your pick up day fall on or after the holiday, your trash/recycle will be collected one day late.

Monday holiday routes will be picked up on Tuesday

Tuesday route is picked up on Wednesday

Wednesday route is picked up on Thursday

Thursday route is picked up on Friday

Friday route is picked up on Saturday

Street Maintenance Program

The following is a list of street locations that will be paved in 2018 - 2019:

  • Holly Dr: Rock Hill Rd to Dead End
  • Charles Ave: Rt 111 to Dead End
  • Virginia Ave: Berry Ln to Dead End
  • Berry Ln: Rt 111 to Dead End
  • Kendall Estates: All Streets

Alley Maintenance Program

The public works department will oil and chip alleys in zone 5 and zone 6 this year (2018).  These two zones combined are bordered by Wood River Ave to the west, Edwardsville Rd to the north, 6th St. to the east and Madison Ave. (Rt. 143) to the south.
