This is being shared to make parents aware. If medical help is not sought then it could cost a child their eye sight.
This child came home from school with a red eye that got worse during the evening. The mother assumed it was pink eye and took precautions to help prevent the spread of it through the family and gave the child a cool cloth to put on the eye.
The next morning the entire eye was swollen and red. The mother took the child to the doctor. The doctor told the mother that they were luck and got medical treatment just in time to save the child’s eye sight. The child was diagnosed with Peri Orbital cellulitis which is caused by a sinus infection, that the mother was not aware of. The child never complained.
This is a very serious and dangerous infection that was treated with oral antibiotics. If the infection does not respond to the antibiotics immediately then the child may have to be admitted to a hospital. Thankfully this child responded to the oral antibiotics even though the infection did spread.
This child did completely recover and did not have her eye sight affected.
